Now that Doom3 & Half Life2 has come and passed, what will be the next big thing?

Boiling Point seams to take on FarCry's legacy.

Liquidator looks good on the screens at least...

Legend of Zelda... what? There's a first person mode in it with up-C!

Unreal 3 and Quake 4 should be getting close if your not aware of them. The former looks, well, unreal, and Quake4 is running on the doom3 engine and a proper sequel to Quake2 at last.

Those are going to hit pretty hard. The latter I have concerns about, i think its going to just be a tired Doom3 knock off...

F.E.A.R will be surely be the next big FPS and it's one of the most anticipated games nowadays, I also have very high hopes for S.T.A.L.K.E.R

Yep, looking forward to both of those, F.E.A.R in particular looks excellent.

Pariah looks like it might be quite good too.

talking about F.E.A.R., this multiplayer beta was recently posted over at FH:

Screenshots http://www.planet-fear.de/?open=14

*) Beta comes with two modes Deathmatch and Elimination
*) Dedicated server or play online
*) 3 Maps, DM_Construction, DM_Docks and DM_Office
*) No single player missions, Multiplayer only
*) Fast PC required*!!!!, uses engine very similar to Doom3 !!

*I did some tests and this 3d engine is pretty good. My PC spec is P4 3.0Ghz, 512mb DDR, Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB

Options>Performance>Test Settings (plays a cool timedemo)
@1024x768 All details set to MAXIMUM, average FPS = 20
@1024x768 All details set to MEDIUM, average FPS = 25
@1024x768 All details set to MINIMUM (dx9), average FPS = 90

So I suggest you set it to minimum and increase the effects you want until the timedemo reaches a smooth FPS. On minimum the graphics still look good and detailed. I have mine set to MINIMUM with some options set to medium like sound, trilinear filtering and pixel doubling off and I get an average FPS of 40.

lol, what you talking about? Horse back bow and arrow in Ocarina of Time! :wacky:

Forgot about FEAR, yup that one looks good. PC Gamer made it out to be Rainbow Six + horror in one of its early previews about 6 months ago and the screenshots looked nice :)

The new engine for Unreal 3 looks just insane...If it actually looks like that I think it will set it to a whole new level.Again though it also boils down to gameplay.

and that all boils down to it being another Quake clone and it will most likely be substandard.

Still give its beauty I suppose that will mean there's at least modding potential.

I often get the feeling companies like Id are there to sell the engine rather than the game.

i'm really wondering if they'll ever release this game. as far as i remember they've been working on it for at least 8 years now. i mean however well it's gonna sell (in case it'll even be released) after so much time and work it just has to be a financial fiasko.

I'm stunned they still have money for the damn thing. But I'm definitely buying it when it's released.
