I hope not, it makes me sick to the stomach that someone would sell something i released for free, what makes it especially annoying is if it is as some crappy avi->DVD re-encode.

I hate people that sell and trade stuff like this, its annoying enough i have to buy a pirate dvd for ?15 off ebay for rare movies.

what makes you think that PC Arcade?

im guessing that if he/she doesn't have the artwork to copy, they didn't have
the original DVD to begin with, but maybe not?

the following do stick out though:

Return Of The Living Dead (ULTRA RARE WORKPRINT!)
Hellraiser III (Extended Uncut Version)
Nightmare In A Damaged Brain (ULTRA RARE FULLY Uncut)

Tom Savini Scream Greats Vol 1 - i don't think this has ever been released on
DVD, just VHS & Laserdisc.

Superstition - was only released on DVD this month, you could only get this on VHS
before that.

well i think that's the reason he thinks they are probably a user of this site, the movies listed seem pretty similar to some of the rare stuff released on this site, like the ones you mentioned.

he also has a number of the infect back catalogue of releases, koffogen's, strs and titles like "Johnny Got His Gun" which were released in the non horror section.

I get the same feeling i'm afraid :(

Yeah I guess the same :(

Let's clear one thing up once and for all...

OK he may have the Dutch or Australian VHS but looking at his other stuff I assume this is that "gory rip" in which case this is my rip and I still have the German VCD it was ripped from, the cover claims to be fully uncut but it isn't. All the gore is more or less intact, the goriest cut version I've seen hence the tag. If it were uncut then I'd have tagged it uncut. This film was banned in Germany and due to a loophole in German law had some of the dialogue removed, therefore it is not the same print as the banned one and is legal.

Also a note to cross-posters, it ain't a VHS rip although the VCD has obviously been taken from a VHS source. I wouldn't have ripped it in such a crappy resolution if it were a VHS. By all means cross-post it but please get the facts right.

He He What a cheeky bastard! Maybe they are just dupes from other hard sources (vhs imports/market dupes). If he has a big hd dedicated to keeping digital copies of DVDr/VHSs that others sell. Recodes seem a waste of time.

Off topic I know but he claims these are fully legal copies, I have heard about under US law if a particular version of a film isn't available in the US then it isn't covered by copyright, does anyone know if this is really the case as I find it hard to believe? As an example on his list, Braindead, which is available fully uncut in more enlightened countries such as the UK and Germany :o

If this is the case then the same should be applied throughout Europe, each country could refuse to take Hollywood shit and create local jobs sourcing and duplicating the material from China and elsewhere in the Far East

That is completely untrue I'm afraid. Only public domain movies can be copied without consent.

If you don't copyright your movie, then it is public domain.

yeah, well not exactly claim as their own, but have the right to distrubute it.
*everyone looks at George Romero*

However, that doesn't really apply to foreign movies, if you release your movie in asia say, an american distrubuter has to negotiate distrubution rights to the movie... they can't just steal it and then distrubute it without buying the rights just because you've not released it there.

Speaking of international distrubution, its the same reason why the MPAA introduced region coding, to scam customers and squeesh money out of distrubution rights/ stagger releases in varying regions.

On the one hand it might be sensible to allow you to freely copy stuff you can't get hold of, on the other hand, that might seriously harm the independant film makers which would be a travesty.

The real culprit is the MPAA for introducing region encoding and a bombardment of delays, advertising tactics and other such crap to maximise profits at the expense of the movies and the fans. Not to mention sitting on movies they own the rights to. Which is the claim here, if they don't release it, they still own it and nobody can copy it legally. That's not true.

So the question I pose is :

"Which is worse?"

1. Renaming Rippers tags*

or

2. Selling rips for your personal gain

*That was something I stumbled accross straight away from using eMule.
Couldn't figure out why people had loads of different files of the same film, untill I realised that it was the same file just renamed - muppets

Personally I hate these pirates that sell stuff :matrix:

From my lowly point of view, retaggers are just sorry assholes, who deserve to be kicked in the groin - they also usually made themselves look like idiots, when all they change is the tag of the file they're trying to take credit for, while the internal file info remains intact.

/me points at some of those losers and laughs

However losers, who download things for free and then try selling them for personal gain (be it monetary or... any other  ) are fucking cheap, greedy assholes, who deserve to be shot in the groin (with a crossbow or a large caliber handgun) and then reported to MPAA, RIAA or any other bandits in suits that are running around in the appropriate country.

Then shot again.
