...And the Remake-Machine trundled on...

** DAY OF THE DEAD remake: Its official, Steve Miner will direct the upcoming remake of George A. Romero's DAY OF THE DEAD, from a script by FINAL DESTINATION's Jeffrey Reddick. Here's what he had to say: "I'm thrilled to be working with Steve Miner and the team at Millennium Films and Emmet/Furla Films on the new DAY OF THE DEAD," Reddick tells. "Steve has directed some of my favorite genre movies - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2, HOUSE, WARLOCK and HALLOWEEN: H20. All of us are working extremely hard to create a terrifying film that pays homage to George Romero's original, while introducing audiences to a fresh vision of a world under siege by a zombie plague."

"I'm sworn to secrecy on specifics, but this won't just be a rehash of an old film," he continues. "I'm a huge fan of George Romero and I wouldn't insult his work by just copying his movie with a WB-friendly cast. But I can tell you this: There will be a military facility with soldiers, scientists and civilians, there will be a Bub and yes, there will be blood - lots of it. Like the original, this DAY will be rated R." (thanks to Fangoria.com)

** TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE THE ORIGIN: Variety reports that a couple of actors with notable recent genre credits have come aboard the currently rolling TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE prequel, now back to being subtitled THE ORIGIN. Cyia Batten, who stars in the creepy recent DVD release COOKERS, and Lew Temple, who played Adam Banjo in THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, are part of the cast that also includes the yummy Jordana (THE FACULTY) Brewster and returning villains R. Lee Ermey and Andrew Bryniarski. New Line opens the movie next October. (thanks to Fangoria.com)

** BLACK CHRISTMAS remake: Dimension has acquired U.S. distribution rights to 2929 Productions remake of the horror thriller BLACK CHRISTMAS says The Hollywood Reporter. BLACK CHRISTMAS is about a killer who terrorizes a sorority house with phone calls before he begins to murder various sorority sisters during the holiday break. Writer-producer-director team of James Wong and Glen Morgan (FINAL DESTINATION) are behind the project which will start production in January for a Christmas 2006 release. Wonder when they are gonna do a prequel to Night?...

Or maybe 'NightOfTheLivingLeatherfacedAliensVersusDraculaZombieSatanSonOfAPredator' film?... :wacky:

Chainsaw I am not really intereste in, the first film was OK the rest were just trying to cash in.

Black Christmas I do not believe I have seen, I could be wrong tho.

Day of the Dead, hhhhm, high hopes, but TBH I just hope it turns out to be an OK film.

Oh master of understatement, what movie ist worthy of thee? :googley:

Ok? Chain saw f*ckin rules. I agree though that the sequels were nothing but cashins, especially the remake, but calling the first movie just okay is a tad disagreeable given how much I love that movie.

What was wrong with Chain Saw tak?

That's not gonna work... believe me you guys, stop this project please.
This is just desecration. The worst thing is that most (young) people who see the remakes don't even know it's a remake... Same thing with the asian stuff.
Mainstream 'horror' seems to have gotten more popular again the last couple of years and remakes are popping out everywhere.

Sorry to kinda cross-post; But at least Uwe Boll isnt remaking films yet. His own or otherwise!...
Maybe we should just be thankful for what we DO have... :wacky:

As for Chainsaw; Whos afraid of a fat-ugly-bloke in an old-womens cooking-apron, wearing possibly cinemas worst fright-wig! :o (His pinnie(sp?) even has loads of spilt tomato soup on it FFS!).
Its like watching a bunch of teens running away from Delia Smith, (after a bottle of sherry)!
Pah!
I still maintain TheSoundOfMusic beats it for its pure, visceral horror-content.

Is that some kind of politically uncorrect joke at the expense of the guy in the wheel chair? :googley:

Come on texas is a very good example of smart direction, the way you think its repulsive and tense, but you never actually see any gore. Its slow and if your of the mentality that horror is blood, or horror is some snazzy editing with gun battles between werewolves and zombies then your not likely to like it of course. Its kind of like the wickerman, its smarter and some people just like a quick fix from a movie. My personal taste is I'm willing to do a little leg work to get at the horror. Why i like the shining also, and Dawn of the Dead for that matter.

Unfortunately, i need robotic giant legs to find anything horror in films like BWP, which are just flat out devoid of anything

Hey Spud, you said it yourself, I am the master of understatement LOL

Seriously, when I say something is OK it means it was good enuff to remember. If I did not like it then I would have said so. Apparently, according to my wife, I do not elaborate very well on what I am feeling. LOL, the other night she took me out for a real expensive meal, great time, wine dine and, er other stuff, and when she asked me how my night was I simply replied "Yeah, it was OK". She was not very happy for some really weird reason.

I did really like the first chainsaw, saw it young and it freaked me out quite a bit. I never saw the sequels in any kind of order, just when I came across them. But they just left me with the impression of either a shitty rehash of the original or just another cash in job.
