this one is so hard ti find has anyone in this world ever seen a copy?
A lonely figure in a desolate, utterly bizarre landscape, a young man finds a vulture-like bird lying prone in the snow. He takes it back to his home and places it gently in a cage. His intentions aren’t entirely humane, though. Using an assortment of dubious surgical devices, he cuts the still-living bird open and extracts from it half of a strange fruit/insect hybrid. This object is nothing less that the embryo of the universe, a fabled living artifact that is desperately sought by the awful biomechanical demons that dominate the world.
A twisted, sepia-toned melange of live action, stop-motion and hand-drawn animation, Mecanix presents a harsh, confounding universe that can earn very favourable comparisons with the works of Jan Svankmajer, the Brothers Quay, Shinya Tsukamoto and early David Lynch. Rémy Larochelle’s film is less a sci-fi horror flick than a fantastic, epic fable fueled by a demented symbolism and a clash of the organic and the mechanical, Mecanix is a remarkable achievement in handmade filmmaking and nightmarish surrealism.
