Don't know if this is horror, as I have not seen it, but the book sure would qualify as horror.

Now the old one was directed by Orson Welles, whereas the new one features preformances by Kyle MacLachlan (that guy from Dune and Twin Peaks) and Anthony Hopkins!

SPOILER!!!

well, the book had an awesomely looooong buildup and I was so looking foreward to see how it would end, and how he would explain all the weird going-ons, but then it all just ended in like half-a-page or something? no explaination, no nothing.. maked me wonder if perhaps Kafka wasn't that smart after all, but really just a weird weird guy with problems. Also read that he actually didn't want the book published himself, and they picked it up from his trash or whatever...

It's perfect the way it is, imagine what some trivial ending would do to this brilliant book. And definitely with this book every ending WOULD seem trivial. The point is not to know!
I'd love to see the 1993 version, it has some really great actors. I'm going to put a request on fileheaven if you haven't done this yet, perhaps someone could rip it.

yes.. exactly.. john_doe.. if the end said it all that would ruin the hole thing.. the thing with the book is just the unknown and it doesn't spoil the story...
i like books that doesn't explain it all.. then you have to use your brain.. you know :eatthis:

yeah, I see what you're sayign, that's the same reasons why I love Donnie Darko! But this book I just didn't get.. I felt it was written as a big build-up to a climactic ending, but there was none. just like when some station cancel a TV-series without airing the last episode.

But please come foreward with the spoilers, and explain it all to me. My brain only works on saturdays, if there's a girl with big breast nearby.

I also read that kafka wrote the beginning and the end first, then he wrote the middle. don't know what that means though...

hehe.. i understand you.. in some cases it could be very enoying with that kind of endings...

explain? hmm.. i don't think kafka wanted you to understand, really.. That's the "beautiful" thing with this book.. the without knowing thing..

This is not an adaptation of the book.

I requested it some time ago on FH, no reply though. If you rip it, I'll be the first one in your queue for it. :D

yes, yes! /me wants a rip!

btw you?re right, Kafka didn?t write the book in one piece, there are also some fragments he didn?t work out till his death, in some issues they?re included. he asked his friend and publisher Max Brod to burn all his stuff after his death, but already being relatively popular at his time, Brod recognized his talent and published it.
if you expect an explanation i don?t think you?ll get one and i would suggest a less literal reading.

I've seen this version floating around, but I'm much more curious about the one from 1993...
