Synopsis: This animation retells the traditional story of the sandman, but with decidedly sinister connotations. A little boy is sent upstairs to bed but is scared on his own. The sandman enters the house, climbs the stairs and tries to wake the now sleeping boy........

Notes: This highly stylised animation uses all the hallmarks of Expressionist cinema to create a highly atmospheric and tantalising reworking of a traditional tale. The atmosphere is dark and menacing, the lighting uses shadows to add to the atmosphere and highlight the difference between light, warmth, safety and dark danger. The film is beautiful to watch, and the power of the atmosphere and the narrative are mesmerising.

Year: 1991.
Run Time: 10 minutes.

Director: Paul Berry.
Producer: Ian MacKinnon.

I hope this belongs in this section, being an animated short. :?

Trust me, it's excellent. I had a copy of it on video, but the ex missus fucked off with my vids, and i've lost contact with her. A mate copied it from me but he is in Thailand for 6 months (returns in May), so there's a chance i can post it myself on his return. Although it's 10 mins on an unlabled video in a massive pile. You know the score, a needle in a haystack job!

Incidentally, it was actually nominated for an oscar for best animation in 1991, and Paul Berry went on to be lead animator in Tim Burton's "A nightmare before Christmas" amongst other things.
