I watched this movie years ago and it is honestly an excellent "war" movie.

It has never been released on DVD and is only available on VHS.

This is like an analogy where there is a piece of software available for my PC but I need to buy it on Floppy disk...but I don't use floppies anymore...or even have a FDD'''

Has anybody seen it transferred to Divx etc?

There is one copy available on Ebay (UK) right now but I'm loath to buy a VHS tape :matrix:

If it was DVD I would not hesitate. :beerchug:

I agree, this has got to be one of my favourite "war" films ever http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059274/ along with Das Boot and The Cruel Sea. I've only ever seen this on TV about 3 times over the past years and never seen a VHS or DVD of it available.

I do hope someone, somewhere has this. :beerchug:

In what seems like an alternate reality that never existed, I was once in the British Army - this film is certainly one of the most accurate movies as far as the British Army is concerned. (I have friends that are still in the Army to this day but they say that the modern Army is unrecognisable from what we had to put up with.)

Many people assume it is brutal movie etc., I'd suggest it is just honest.

I think the reason that it is so accurate is because the majority (if not all?) of the actors were probably National Servicemen and knew exactly how things were.

Which is very far from the mark of other "realistic" military movies that are often too soft or touchy feely.

A classic example of a movie that was directed by somebody that (in my opinion!) did not have a clue, was "To End All Wars" which is a fairly highly rated moved but utterly disappointing personally speaking.

The very end of the movie did bring a rather swift misting of the eyes - but that was nothing to do with the actors. That's the scene with the actual people that the movie was based on.

There's a spanish version which is listed over at the classic-links.net site.
Unfortunately it's in Spanish  although someone says their are english subs about.

ed2k: la.colina.(s..lumet,1965).[xvid].[spanish].[satrip].[divxclasico.com].by.prp.avi  [701.28 Mb] [Stats]

Maybe try kloofy for the subs?

Failing that, part with some hard-earned(?) wonga and buy the VHS.

Only problem is that I don't have a VHS player these days - I tend to travel for work as well and my Laptop is my entertainment centre... :wacky:

There is only a VHS version for sale - which I don't have.

I don't even have a VHS player at my disposal right now - I'd buy the DVD if it was for sale :(

Beautiful rip made by rentboy for Karagarga of one of Lumet's finest films. It's a rip made from a Cable TV capture.
