I've just ripped a new movie to share here with you guys using AutoGK, which I've used on all my other rips with no trouble what so ever.
This rip however has a huge black border at the bottom of the screen & a smaller one at the top. When I checked the DVD on my TV (not watched the film yet), the borders are equal like a letterbox format film.
specs
Quote: | AVI File Details ======================================== Name.........: Rise.Of.The.Undead.2005.Zombie.Horror.DVDRip.XViD.Mr.Flibble.avi Filesize.....: 700 MB (or 717,568 KB or 734,789,632 bytes) Runtime......: 01:31:54 (132,206 fr) Video Codec..: XviD Video Bitrate: 950 kb/s Audio Codec..: 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3 Audio Bitrate: 108 kb/s (54/ch, stereo) VBR Frame Size...: 704x416 (1.69:1) [=22:13] |
So I decided to give the proper GK a go, to crop away the huge borders. I'm following this TUTORIAL.
I've done everything as stated in the Tutorial for an XViD rip, but when I'm asked for the audio file to add there's nothing in the folder where it should be. All I've got is the stream information text file & 1 VOB & IFO file created by DVD Decrypter, and the avisynth script.
No selectable audio file of any description.
Any idea where I've made a complete balls of this?
Or is there a better tutorial that takes you from beginning to the end of ripping with GK?
I've got the hang of GK apart from this bit, although this bit is pretty fucking serious if you want to release movies with sound.
Any help is appreciated.

You missed out the dvd2avi step, on the first tab, look at the instructions, you need to do the making the dgindex file, which creates a project (you can forcefilm here if its 29.976fps [if its film > 95%] since its better than IVTC). Under audio, you select demux all tracks and it outputs them to AC3, if its PCM audio, select demux all WAV, etc. from the same menu.
If you did the demux all tracks step, then its highly likely its pcm, then you need to go back to that step, and process the file demuxing PCM. Then you can load that file into gknot keeping all your setting and jump right into "save and encode"

Didn't miss that step Spud just forgot to state that I have a .d2v file in my folder, I had a post written and then changed it and forgot to put that back in.
But I think that is where my problem is, I've done the demux all tracks step so I'll try the others audio settings that you mentioned and see how I get on.
I'm suprised that GK is as easy as it is (apart from my problem), I've opened it a few times and saw all the options and thought "Fuck this".

lol, yeah its dead simple, infact most of the time, the problems have to do with registry settings and codec updates that break the damn thing
I've just got the infect rip of this movie btw, i was going to release it today. I was going to release it earlier in the week but there seems to be a problem with IVTC not catching all the interlaced frames

oh btw, top tip... 704x resolution is far too high, particularly for this movie. You get a lot sharper image with the lower resolution.
Its not the best thing to rip anything that high, generally, you shouldn't be looking at anything over 640x unless you've got a highly compressable (dark / clean / B&W) movie.
Didn't spot that particular spec till now.

oh man, i completely forgot another thing, this is why autogknot doesn't work.
Frame 1-x and the credits are 4:3, so it's actually trying to preserve not cropping though. You need to clip out the logo at the beginning
You should also examine the rip in nandub, to check for interlaced frames, i spotted some earlier this week, so it was re-encoded like 5 times trying to get rid of them all It doesn't use the standard IVTC method, so it needs a combination of inverse telecine, decimate and deinterlacing filters to get them all.
As i said, a bitch to start out using gknot on it, but autogknot is incapable of encoding movies like this. That is hybrid material, telecined and interlaced, which varying aspect ratios.

its actually not got that many zombies in it, its more of a seige/hold-out movie than anything.
Oh and it will be released soon as possible. Just trying to make it looks as best as can be made, and everythings done right as always
