I got a usenet connection on Friday and must say it kicks ass.

But I got one small problem. I downloaded a movie and half the files have downloaded as txt instead of rar. It also happened to me downing a game, and it downloading 1gig of txt files that were 0bytes in size.

I'm using GrabIt and have a usenetserver account, the file wasn't out of date that I know of.

When I use QuickPar to check the files, it tags them as incomplete.

Anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

might want to use newsleecher not many people use grab it, newsleecher by far is the better program

hmmm after reading that again i think i had those before if you look with files u got there might be a .exe file that can be used with winrar and or hjsplit should join them together

open winrar and find the first file and extract movie

The movie I was downloading was Wiseguys Vs Zombies from alt.binaries.multimedia.horror, every other file from there has downloaded no worries or has been repaired by QuickPAR.

The game was Call Of Duty 2 I can't remember the group, but it took the length of time it should for a PS2 game to download but like I said it was just text files of 0 bytes in size.

Have you got a link for a working copy of Newsleecher video-man.

I've had this problem it's a PITA to fix too, firstly make sure that your grabit download folders aren't read only and try to download something from the same group, if it still doesn't appear in the correct directory you will have to re-install grabit

first though you need a uudecoder to convert the text files in the grabit cache directories (cache\articles\groupname\*.txt) into the file that it should be, try something like uuDeview : http://www.miken.com/uud/

As you can see some were correctly identified as RAR files and others got saves as text files.

vol is your par2 files and some files for winrar will not show the winrar icon

Yeah I realised that and have had no problems when the icon doesn't show for WinRAR.

I used the program PCArcade suggested and has recovered some of the information I downloaded.

I think the problem is GrabIt hasn't downloaded the information, as when I run QuickPAR it tell me some of the files are missing.

It's not usenetserver, it's a bug with Grabit, something is wrong with Grabit's installation and it needs to be re-installed.

I use grabit though, it's only ever played up once and when re-installed has been superb

Just another quick question that I know the answer of but just want to double check, when I close GrabIt it will carry on from where it left off when I load it again?

At least I know of a good backup if GrabIt keeps playing up on me.
