Today i built a PC, everything went fine (well probably not) but when i try to boot it the monitor says 'no input signal'.
Specs:
mobo: Asrock AMD 939DUAL-SATA2
processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ S939
graphics card: MSI NX6600GT 256MB heatpipe PCI-E
memory: 1024 kingston DDR400
HDD: Maxtor 250GB Diamondmax 10 SATA2 7200rpm 16MB
PSU: Antec, 450 Watts

I tried:
different graphical card (AGP instead of PCIE)
memory in different slots
different memory (different brand)
different monitor
reset CMOS

I don't get video output AT ALL so i can't even see BIOS settings for example. Anybody has any ideas?

Some monitors have an "Analog/Digital" input selector button. try pushing it and let's see if this works.

PCI-E video cards tend to use an extra 6 pin power cable, have you connected one to it?

Time to start some diagnostics then ;)

Remove the memory and / or CPU turn the PC does it beep?
Do you have another gfx card to try? (I keep an old PCI gfx card around for this very purpose)

Agreed, time to strip it down to the bare minimum, board, PSU, video card and a single stick of RAM. If possible take the board out of the case and try it without it, in case the board is shorting.

I removed memory and CPU, checked CPU for damage, booted without but no beeps at all. I tried an AGP gfx card but no avail.
After asking this question on another forum somebody told me the Antec smartpower series PSU's don't go well together with Asrock motherboards. So i'm going to exchange the motherboard or case (came with psu so it's not very smart to get a new psu only.)
I'll let you know how things go. Thanks so far.

No beeps at all suggests it's not even getting to start the BIOS and POST sequence. Have you no older PSU you can briefly check with? It should stil be and ATX board, and even and old 300W or so should be enough to start it up.

I don't have a different PSU spare here, except for the one in this machine but i don't feel like pulling it out right now.
Some guy who had the same problem on a different forum sent an email to Asrock and got the following reply:
Quote:
Simon,

The PSU does not come with the -5V since newer motherboards does not need them anymore. We have heard of some incompatibility issue regarding these two parts. I would suggest getting either a different power supply or a different motherboard to get your system working.

Also people on a Dutch forum say this is quite a common problem. I think i will call the store tomorrow and tell them i'd like to change the mb for a Asus A8N-E since that should solve the problem.

And i did have a speaker connected ;)

I'd recommend the ASUS A8N-Sli premium, which should be cheaper now since socket AM2 is out.

No, sadly not cheaper than the A8N-E. I meant prices for anything socket 939 related are reduced generally now.

A long shot, but are you using dvi or standard connection? If its a standard, make sure you've not bent the pins, they bend very easily as you'll know and you'll either loose a colour or get no signal displayed.

To fix, best to use a large needled syringe like you get in print refill sets. The needle will fit over the pin and allow you to bend it back.

Really just posting to say:
*moved*
:)

Passive heat pipe cooler on the chipset, no noisy fan to go wrong.
Extra SATA RAID controller, a Silicon Image 3512.
Two LAN ports.

Well since it was possible to exchange just the PSU i went for that. Plugged it in and everything works fine now. Only problem i have now is that when i plug a usb stick in the front port, a bsod shows up sometimes... I think it's a ground problem since i don't have a grounded socket near the machine :wacky: . I'll fix it this weekend in another way though (i think).

Thanks for the input after all.
