I know most of you chaps are using emule rather than overnet (as i shall be once my current files complete), but i have experienced corruption problems on the occasional file, to the point where the file becomes unobtainable. :matrix: I have tried leaving these files for days, but actually end up with less data than i started with. You can spot the culprits by opening the tree in the transfer window. This for example is the second Nightmare On Elm Street file that is indexed in the HHAH movies list (1st link is fine btw), and is a classic example.

I would be unable to get this file as most users are stuck in the same place. Is this just a quirk of overnet, or does emule suffer the same fate?

"quirk of overnet" That's what it is

You could try to fix it with the MetFileRegenerator, but even then it's possible you'll end up with a corrupted download (happened a couple of times to me). I've used Overnet for a month or two and had a couple of these kind of downloads and got sick of it. eMule is the better product...

That depends. If he's using the new way how temp files are treated it's not possible...

Cheers Random Dude. I gotta hunt me a mule! :D

@ John, Only if you started your download using the "old part" system. Overnet defaults to the "new part" system unfortunately.

Found this over at FH. Might be interesting for you EagleEater and perhaps something for the FAQ?

Because CD2 seems to be forever stalled with Overnet, I've moved my download to eMule and it's downloading properly again.

Unfortunately, because Overnet uses a newer "part file" system than eMule, you can't simply copy your incomplete download in your overnet/temp folder to the emule/temp folder. (I am assuming that you're using Overnet's newer default 'x.x.part' file system as most people do. Check your options if your unsure.)

Simply put, Overnet splits up the file it's downloading into 76 smaller files (or parts or chunks), names them 1.1.part, 1.2.part, etc and puts them all in a folder named as the filename of the download. Once all the chunks are downloaded, it combines them into 1 file (e.g. an AVI file). eMule just downloads 1 file (or part or chunk), called 001.part.

Fortunately, there is a way to transfer the Overnet multi-part files easily using the official eMule software.

To transfer incomplete downloads from Overnet v.052 to eMule:

1. Run eMule (official version)
2. press Alt-X (hotmenu), select Import partial downloads from ON (overnet)
3. leave the original files intact or choose to delete them when the transfer is complete.
4. 1 minute later, it's finished. Easy.

MY CD2 has now finished downloading and I'm sharing it on both the Overnet and eMule networks so that others can complete their currently bar-coded CD2.

Dub.

Thanks for that Mr Dude. John Doe has also drawn my attention to such a feature in the new emule. I am currently gearing up to a format, as my computer is getting a tad erratic in it's behaviour, and am planning to install emule afterwards. At least armed with this knowledge i can make the move to emule sooner rather than later if my 'puter suddenly gets much worse. I'm sure this info will also be of help to many others who are having problems getting files off Overnet.
Cheers matey! :beerchug:
