OK, here's the problem. I've installed VDM in order to take screen captures, and it is working fine with DivX movies. However, when i try to load an Xvid movie, i get the old red circle with white cross and a message saying "Couldn't locate decompressor for format"XVID" (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable." :?

I have VDM ver 1.5.1.1a and XviD-Dec-1.0-Beta3 installed.

Incidentally, since installing that version of Xvid (in order to play Spud's League of Gentlemen rips smoothly) the brightness slider in the Xvid filter properties no longer works. I have tried a reinstall of FFDshow, and the Xvid codec, but to no avail. :(

Any help with these problems would be gratefully received.

Oops - your question slipped thru...didn't it?

It's a solution but have you tried installing an older xvid built ?

Did that work ?

Hang on , reading something during a google search, , what exactly did you install...? Link ?

this is what I found so far:

Download and install BOTH an XviD codec and the FFDShow filter...

That is not a proper driver, the decoder (DEC) is a ffdshow filter, not a codec. Download the proper codec and you should be able to use virtualdubmod properally.

Thanks for your help guys, but i have got it sorted now. I have installed XviD 1.0-RC3 2004-02-29 and ffdshow-20040304, and everything is rosy. I still have no access to the Xvid brightness slider, but i can change the brightness on Xvid movies in Zoomplayer now, which i couldn't before.

Happy days! :D
