Just installed the new Opera, but can't get a few things sorted out:

1. How do you remove the fooking New page button from the page bar?

2. I remember there was some option to use the browser window to manage bookmarks rather than a separate dialog box. How is it done? It was much more comfortable.

3. Why does it show red and green stars in my bookmarks instead if small icons?

2. Ctrl-shift-2 , but I think they changed it round a bit, so when you rename you have to go properties then type in a name. Moving around and deleting can be done via the side bar, which you hit F4 to bring up.

I guess its cos 7.5 is still a beta or something.

I can't see the picture, getting 404.

Anyway, ctrl-shift-2 doesn't work. And I think it's the final version I have.

As for the new page button, there were several guys on different boards asking the same question. The answer they got is "Right click and deselect 'show new page button'". Seems pretty obvious, but there's nothing like this under my right click menu...

Hiya folks. I'm giving Opera 7.5 a go myself at the moment, my first excursion from IE. So far i'm impressed by what i see, but am getting the message "Address type is unknown or unsupported" when i click any eD2k links. Is there any way i can remedy this, or do i have to use the "Copy link address" option, which does work by the way. Also "Take eD2k links" is checked in eMule preferences.
:beerchug:

PS. I get the "show new page" option on right click. Dunno what's up with yours there Polityk. :?

Don't know how it is with your version, but it turns out this option only appears if no page is active - I had to click on the tab of the displayed page to hide it and then it appeared. Is it the same with yours?

Apart from this button, which to me doesn't seem to be a very fortunate idea, great browser. Good you can disable this sucker.

Nope, mine enables me to remove the new page button by right clicking anywhere below the personal bar, irrespective of wether there are web pages open or not. Also the bookmarks do appear as small icons once you have used the bookmark to visit the page (if an icon is available that is).

The only problem that i've found so far has come to my attention just now. I couldn't use the "Quote selected" button, when i tried to quote Polityk, and had to put the quote tags in manually. Any ideas on how to solve this would be greatly appreciated.

Other than that, this is a superb browser so far. :D

I had it with opera 7.20, quote selected didn't work.

As for my 7.50, it appears that the differences between mine and yours were caused by the fact that I tried to import some settings from 7.20. It seems that I came up with a mixture of 7.20 and 7.50, lol. After a clean reinstallation everything seems fine.

Ha ha ha, Opera hybrid. Nice!

Incidentally Polityk, you say "Quote selected" didn't work in the previous version, i'm just curious to know if there are any similar problems you've encountered that i should be looking out for?

Pleased you have it sorted now though.

I must say having just had to use IE again to check some hotmail attachments that it's awful. Having to use forward and back buttons really sucks. I'm really impressed with the instinctive controls on Opera. I've made a new friend in my middlemouse button. :D

You got rid of that new page button then? I forgot to mention, you remove it by clicking 2nd button>Show new Page Button and not via 2nd button>Customize toolbar

Ok, I have everything sorted out now, the icons appear next to my bookmarks, new page button gone, bookmark management in the browser window (what an improvement over v. 7.20!). Never noticed any problems with Opera except for the quote selected not working under this browser (actually there's another minor detail, smileys are added at the end of the text, not depending on the cursor position - don't remember if it was the same with IE, but I think it wasn't).

From time to time you may encounter a page that would crash Opera, this is because some idiots still think there is only one browser in the world. Even if it crashes, it remembers last session, so it's not like with IE that you loose everything that is opened and not bookmarked.

Strange thing, after I had reinstalled the system, the new Opera crashed several times in the HHAH login screen. Finally managed to login and everything is ok now. Didn't do it in Fileheaven login screen, so I think it must be something with HHAH.

I like v. 7.50 very much though, it loads much faster than the previous version and has a few other major improvements. Pity it still opens two windows after I click a link in any other proggy (like various messenger apps, outlook etc).

Cheers for the info Polityk.

I hope i'm not tempting fate here, but i haven't had a single crash since installing Opera, and hell have i been giving it a workout. I have made another discovery though. It won't allow me to access the eD2k links on Eselmetal. It won't open the disclaimer page before you see the link, which is slightly annoying. Having said that, it's a small price to pay to use IE on the rare occasion i visit Eselmetal. Gotta say the more i use Opera the more i love it. The "copy to note" function, and the ability to highlight a non clickable URL (text) and launch to it are a couple of my favourite features to date.

Life is good. :D

Ditto if you mean opera7.5 , I have had opera crash on opening too many windows when I was searching giger art work a while back and on those dodgy warez sites that have too many java applets.

@poly, having access to the php for both fileheaven and hhah I can confirm that the bit of code is question is identical. You didn't have any other sessions open by any chance?

I like the customised search bars by editing search.ini... now thats cool and very conveniant.

Oh and as for opening a new window? Mine doesn't do that. It used to with middle clicks, but shift-middle click lets you choose an option.

When I click a link in Outlook or ony instant messenger, two windows appear. One contains the home (starting) page, the other one opens the actual link. Can't find any way to change it.

As for those crashes when logging in, I didn't have anything else open. Tried to access HHAH several times, then tried the same with FH, it worked, then came back to HHAH, still didn't work. Tried logging in using the bottom text fields, no problem, and didn't have any crash since. It was crashing on the popup dialog box asking me if the login/pass should be added to the wand, if this means anything to you.

Ah right i thought you meant it crashed because of hhah then and not because opera fucked up  Your options probably fucked up when you installed, something like you didn't uninstall a previous version, etc.

you probably had some shit written to the cache file it stores passwords in and was crashing when trying to read/write to the file.

The code itself is identical (right down to the spaces) so it would be impossible otherwise

Yeah, i got the IMDb search button too. Hella cool! 8)

And yes, i was referring to 7.50 Spud. I've had 15 pages simultaneously open on it without any trouble at all.

hehe, I got amazon.co.uk, dead-donkey, dead-donkey forums, scifi.dead-donkey.com and dictionary.com too :)

Edited that mofo search.ini :)

I was annoyed about the transfer window popping up all the time, but then I noticed 2nd button> and get rid of it. Hooray, no more window popups ever

It was a clean install on a freshly installed system. I didn't even launch IE before installing Opera. And HHAH was the 1st place I visited. I don't know why it crashed here and not on FH. My point is that it wasn't a random crash, because it repeated itself several times. Perhaps it's no use trying to find the reason...
