Dose emule reserve file space for entire diles or somthing like that?

The second emule starts to download a file it will create the entire filesize to drop the file into.

Not exactly.

It does not reserve any space until it downloads the first chunk. As soon as any chunk is downloaded, disk space is allocated and the file appears in your shared files list.

Apart from this, eMule has a special option to control the remaining disk space. After it falls below certain (user-set) level, it starts pausing those files that were not wholly allocated yet (ie with less than ~9 MB downloaded) to prevent the allocation and thus - save space.

That feature has saved my ass more than a few times

so where can we find that option???? prob depends on which version u use but still ..........................

I believe that all versions of emule allocate the file space. There is a trick to it if you are tight on HDD space like me. If you're running XP (if ur runnin windows then it better be xp) right click the part files folder and go to properties/advanced button and then compress folder.

You can save heaps of space that way! take my drive for example

Full size = 7.13GB
Compressed Size = 2.59GB

this is with about 20 downloads in emule so I am sure those of you with 200+ queues will benefit greatly.

Also the new Emule versions will decompress the file once it is complete automatically for you This uses slightly more CPU time when the file is completing however the space it saves is definately worth it.

Don't do this! There's a high risk of losing your data due to compression errors. I'm not saying this is bound to happen, and most probably will not, but compressed files are a lot more prone to get errors, and since these files are accessed very often when eMule is running, it's rather risky. There was a thread about it somewhere on HHAH, try to find it, I don't have time to do this now.

Of course you could save LOTS of space using this method, allocated files are almost empty at the beginning, so they compress beutifully, but all those real-time compression methods are not 100% sure. I remember Double Space used to fuck up files every now and then, this one is similar. It all depends on the hdd space, you should simply be aware that there is a price to pay for it.

I don't want to pay any price lol me want it for free, i already changed it back to normal i will rather put more d/l on pauze then to fuck up all freakin files
