ah i see, chances are it wasn't actually a worm when that happens. Norton is known to be very, very, very paranoid. In the past it has reported 'worms' in edonkey2000  It was actually just detecting the net code to connect to the network

nope. there was a worm in there allright. did silly things to my puter, like refusing to let me open regedit or task manager, as well as making everything VERY VERY slow.

I've heard some good things about F-Secure. Think I might try that out. Any comments?

I finally couldn't take the lag Norton was laying on my system and installed BitDefender instead. But you say the firewall is no good Spud? Why is that?It detects all requests for connections, so that's about what it's supposed to do right?

I have not, and will not install SP2 until they sort out all the hundreds of bugs and glitches that piece of crap has. I'd leave it a while before updating imo ;)

legit key or not? What version?

I'm using a ahem, special edition of SP1 integrated. I'd heard all this rubbish about TCPIP mess ups and how you have to alter your registry to allow more connections to be opened. I also see that there are some major security issues with it.

Anyways, if you can post the version your using, I'll upgrade with it if you've had none of the described symtoms. I need windows XP pro/crop SP1, none of that home crap

Also, I'm using a winXP sp1 key, I take it I'll need to change it again? *sigh*
