My fan on my 3d card has stopped working and i was wondering if there's anything i can do to fix it? It still spins when i do it by hand. Can you oil them at all? Are they replacable or do i have to get a new card?

I've got a Nvidia Geforce 4 MX44-SE/ 64mb ddr.

you can of course replace any fan in your pc, although since your card is pretty crappy its just better buying a better one

Replacement fans are normally for top of the range card cooling solutions. I believe though if you find a pc specialist they'll stock some.

This is the second one i've had trouble with. I bought one over a year ago and the fan was fucked right out of the box so they gave me another one and now this ones fucked. How long are these fans suppose to last?

Ha ha yeah i know the card is shit but that's all i could get at the time. I can't get a new card now because i just bought a new hard drive yesterday. On that note what's your opinion on the hard drive i got? I'm not much of a tech when it comes to this stuff so any input is helpful. Hard Drive I Bought

You don't put your pc on a carpet, or near somewhere that gets real dusty? If so, you might want to try cleaning it with a vacuum (not over fans!) to get all the crap out.

As for how long fans last, gfx card ones, never had to replace one. I got a 5 year old crap one somewhere and that worked fine for years. I had a geforce 2, that works fine. Even the really budget rubbishness of 440MX hasn't crapped out yet.

On the hdd front, they are all pretty much the same. You hear nightmare stories for each make, but as long as they are quiet, they have a large cache and are speedy, then they will perform well. You just get trouble cases, it happens with moving part components or with a particular crummy brand/model. That hdd is alright though, I'd have gone for a ATA133 though, but if ur mboard doesn't support it then that's fine.

Yeah my computer system is in a carpeted room. When i took it apart it was dirty as fuck. I wasn't sure how to clean it out without screwing something up. So vacuuming it is safe then. I'm guessing that's why my fans keep dying on my 3d card.

My fan's just gone on my gf3 today too :(

Gets very dusty in my case, as the pc is in a carpeted room, on the carpet with one side of the case removed....yeah, I know it's bad, but I have very little space.
On the plus side, it does mean that it gets cleaned very often

Tell me about it! My graphics card has never sat happily in my current case. I had to remove part of the metal plate that attatches to the case just to get it in the agp slot properly (probably would have been easier to buy a new case I guess )

I had the same trouble with my hard drive. It wouldn't quite fit into the spare slot no matter what i tried. But nothing a pair of tin snips couldn't handle
