What exactly is the problem?

I downloaded the installer and it worked fine for me, although it was incredibly slow, leading me to believe it had crashed a few times.

Yeah, 9.3 firefox. No idea what version of Java though....latest I guess, as it came from Java's homepage (http://www.java.com).

Didn't use any tutorial, it was an executable. Just double clicked and let it do the biz. Took maybe 30 mins for the install though, looking like it had hanged at a few points.

I had a similar problem.

The solution was to install firefox with it's installer, or manually edit the registry.
The java plugin was looking for a specific registry value to check if firefox was present and refused to work without it.

Used FirefoxSetup-0.9.3.exe From the MAIN PAGE of Mozilla.

Java is installed.

But still get the "Click here to install plug-in" crap.

Have you checked to make sure the "enable Java" option is selected in web features?

Sorry Satan, I'm out of ideas. The speed test page works fine for me, no idea what could be causing you the problem

Wouldn't blame firefox to quick....

Java didn't , at least on my setup, install smoothly on my xp , and once I did get it installed it crashed or hung up regularly....that is ...till Sp2
Damn think got it fixed whatever it was.....
