I've noticed a problem over the last few months where if I cut, copy or right click a file in Windows Explorer (XP pro) then it hangs for several seconds and Protowall flashes, trying to contact either porndirect or sitefinder. It doesn't always happen but more often than not it does. This happened before and after a clean install on a different HD. It sounds to me like either spyware or a virus but I do a virus scan and run Spyhunter every week and neither has found anything untoward. Has anyone else experienced this or know the solution?

Use Ad-Aware and Spybot instead of that Spyhunter. Some hijackers are a bitch to remove, and you have to do it manually (regedit ect) but the good thing is that there's always more than you that's got it, so try googling for 'porndirect' or 'sitefinder' and see if there are others with the same problems.

Thanks John Doe, Ad-Aware identified 60 items that Spyhunter didn't. Thing is I stopped using Ad-Aware months ago because Spyhunter was finding loads of stuff that it didn't, this was when non-members could see recent/future releases at Crazy Mazeys and it kept telling me I had spyware installed and should use Spyhunter, looks like you need more than one tool. Let's hope that fixes the problem.

Btw I googled for sitefinder and porndirect, the latter threw up some really dodgy looking sites, as well as a forum recommending use of TBM (which I do use) to block access to it.

For a week or so yes, but it started up again, after I visited Melon Farmers (I had wondered if this was where the spyware came from) and this time ad-aware won't shift it and nor will anything else. Anyone got any ideas about removing this manually, I guess it's in the registry somewhere.

I always use Ctrl-X, Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V, this spyware has infected that too  Right-click is also infected.

It's not doing it today, but as I said it doesn't happen every day :?

BTW I use Firefox :D

Thx Purple, I'd never heard of that one and installed it, most things look OK but there are a few items I'll have to investigate further. If I find it I'll post my findings here. :beerchug:
