The help file is pretty good at answering most questions, you can get it here: http://helpfiles.emule-project.org/files/eMule.chm
Biggest things are:
-your credits are not stored locally, only other clients
-you can lose the ability to use your credits (on other clients) if your authentication changes

Well that's very fucking strange, after 4 days or so of downloads @ ~10Kbps (irrespective of which mod I used), emule has suddenly and inexplicably risen to ~100 again, very fucking strange.

Every now and then Emule will start going slow. I suspect this is the case with everyone. Possible solutions might be to change ports, delete the known.met and stuff like that. If all else fails, you can always change mods, right?
Well, now LSD started going at about 1/4 capacity and I figured I try a bunch of new stuff.. Went through all the popular ones, Pawcio, Morph, ect. and most vere even worse!! Then I figured I just try the old Neomule 2.55 again, just to check and waddajooknow? Suddenly it's flying by again!!
Not only that, but it's also MUCH better at finding sources. Some files which I was seeing like 5-7 sources for, now suddenly have 20-30.
I suspsect part of it's success might actually be an error. If I set the up limit to be 10ksec, then it will usually have an overhead at about 7 or 8 ksec, making it a total of 18ksec. If I set the same limit in another mod, the overhead will usually lay around 1 or 2ksec, thus cripling the capasities.
And what do you know? The new Neomule 3.00 is FINALLY released:

I'd try NeoMule. I seem to hear nothing but cool stuff about it.
But I'm doing awesome with MorphXT for some reason.
Files just fly in, and I only up about a quarter of what I download.
But then...I'm used to 700 meg files taking weeks, because up until a couple weeks ago I was using Shareaza, which as everyone knows, sucks the sweat off a dead man's balls.
Sorry to be vulgar, but that program is just horrifically bad.

I updated morphXT, man was it crap... I think its the new mule, but it was hashing completing files and wouldn't progress! Nightmare. Switched back and it was as good as ever, and the files completed...
I think the newer one was a bit faster, but it was really buggy, I think its the emule base! It wouldn't even minimise to system tray in geoshell anymore!!!! The new ed2k link method is seriously crappy too.
I couldn't try tests properally since there were some major, major isp problems in the uk yesterday. I think the DNS server crapped out, so no1 could resolve domain names

I'm really glad I didn't update XT then, I just got a reminder but was too lazy to use it. Files take a LOT longer to get started than on any other mod I've used, but they take the shortest amount of time to complete once they get going.

MorphXT 5.0 running really well here... gonna update to 5.1 in a bit
Had the stuck completing files with Pawcio, but not with Morph...
The old copy link on the context menu needs to be added back badly, but like the extra options available now.

There are load of differences between clients, your best bet is to try a selection of the more popular (Pawcio, stormit, morphXT etc) and see which works for you. I had to try a load before finding that Pawcio worked best for me
I'd certainly try pawcio though and see how you get on, I got MUCH faster downloads, although spud swears by MorphXT.
it IS worth trying other mods though.

I should say im a bit wary about what i use as 18 months ago I got 2 scary letters from my isp telling me to cease my online activities :-o :-o .
Since then I've learnt about ip filters, protowall, blocklist manager and a decent firewall (sygate) I am mainly self taught on the pc so its all a bit trial and error for me

there's NO difference between emule plus and any other mod in that respect.
Out of interest, what ISP?
