Yep, George just posted that it's a modem only... and I know for certain that I don't have a router.
I have the TCP connection connection test problem. I couldn't find any info when I had the problem in the past, but it just seemed to fix itself out of the blue.
It's back again unfortunately. I'm going to try random ports, and when Kerio finishes d/loadin (it's still going!) I'll make sure it's cleared through that (though that wasn't the problem before)

Hmmm, i'm reading into some stuff. One say's don't bother about the test failure and some say change it!
It says here you can use all ports between 1 and 65534
avoiding ports mentioned here:http://www.governmentsecurity.org/articles/CommonPorts.php
Got this from:http://forum.emule-project.net/index.php?showtopic=96717

Thanks for putting yourself out to help there, Pure!
I've found that message and link before when I had the problem in the past. Strange, because I still get a high ID even though the TCP test fails (but still average - poor d/load speeds - currently 8 sources d/loading at 5.6kb/s).
Again, I recall it also depends on the uploader's speed/capacity

That's true for sure but when you have like 30 downloads running i also would expect a bit more then up:28 and down:6.
I would say let it run for the night and get yourself (another) beer and see how things are tomorrow.
Cheers

Well I'm glad that I've found a friendly community that doesn't sniff at the basic problems that I'd presume a high majority of users may have had...
Cheers all - and I'll no doubt bend all yer ears again tomorrow... same time same place guys!

Well tomorrow's already here and I'm still at it!
I tried installing Kerio firewall and it was a bloody nightmare. I couldn't get online with it at all - even with either Firefox or IE.
Completely messed me system up and couldn't even get back onto mule even with ZA - thank god for system restore, I'm finally back to 'normal' (?!?) Yes, I'm a moaning old git, but it IS 3.38am, lol
Oh well, leaving it running overnight now and I'll fill you in in the day sometime.
Cheers

For me 100 seems to be optimum, I had 300+ on the go and it slowed down my downloads, not by much but it was definately quicker with ~100
I'd unpause another 80 files fastersoonernow
One think that Spud and I agree wholeheartedly on though is Zone Alarm, it's an appalling piece of software.
Kerio is FAR better, ZA's vector scanner thing plays merry hell with emule (and IIRC doesn't uninstall properly)

Personally I've had less problems with ZA than any other firewall I've tried. When I first got my PC I got Norton and I started using shareazza(is that how you spell it ? ) they used to be continually be fighting each other, to the point that norton fucked up and I could never get it to reinstall.
I think different things work for different people, I'm using Zone Alarm
and AVG anti virus through a cable router (router firewall turned off and the IP for my pc put into the DMZ zone aswell) and I don't get any conection problems with the mule.
I agree that you'll get better overall download speeds with a fairly large number of open downloads because of the queue ranking and having to wait your turn but the individual downloads speed is basically governed by the speeds that other people are uploading at.

I used Shareaza before. I also had Norton Anti Virus installed and never had any problems myself with those two. So that just illustrates that it might be different for each person. Just try to eliminate all the possible problems that are there.

i reinstalled kerio, after a long time of just a hardware firewall. Absolutely zero problems, just like i remember it.
ed2k: Kerio.Personal.Firewall.v4.2.1.build.896-Lz0.rar [5.15 Mb] [ Stats]
Have you tried it or are you going on collosal monkey turds like norton and thinking all alternatives are like that?
Luckily they ain't, kerio is simple, lightweight and does the job amicably. Does what you click and nothing more, or produce any ill deserved outcome.
As for sharaza, nice intentions, but instead of a great app with a great implementation of a network, you have one extremely crappy application with umpteen crappy implementations of different networks. its a mess.

Yea I have tried kerio, and I now know that Norton is shite, I used it when I first got my pc because it came bundled with it and i didn't know any better. As i said different things seem to work better for different people ( or rather different pc's). I have used various different firewalls and P2P programs but I've just had a far easier and more stable experience using zonealarm and emule.
To be honest though when I first got my router so I could move my pc upstairs and plug my xbox into live I started getting low id's and kad was always firewalled and I was never able to get back on razorback 2, I did a bit of digging around the emule forums and found that switching off the firewall on the router didn't always produce the desired effect as in I was still sometimes getting a low id, but once I put the IP of my pc into the DMZ it's running like a dream.
One other thing I will say though, I have been using the morph 0.47a mod for the last couple of days after using the offical 0.46a and it was badly restricting my uploads, so as one person was getting about 2 to 3 KB/s and the other 3 to 4 people were getting mere b/s even though my upload speed was set to max. I've now just downloaded and installed the official 0.47a and it's gone back to what it should be - everyone getting roughly the same upload speeds most of the time.
Something else i just thought about, I hope all you people are using an IP block filter ( Spud and Pc arcade I know you guys will be, I'm talking to the newer recruits ) I am using blocklist manager and I would recommend useing that, although i'm pretty sure someone will probably disagree and recommend something else.......different things.....

Hi there again.... just got in from a long day of meeting and a long night in the pub.
After a day of downloads I still have 26kb/s upload and well under 6kb/s d/load.
I'm beginning to think that this problem is an unsortable problem (I've even tried connecting without my firewall - for a brief time... so it's not ZA... the TCP connection problem, that is)
For example, I have one d/load with 480 sources... I'm d/loading from four of them at a total of 2.4kb/s
The only reason I'm not throwing the towell in is because of you guys recommending mule over ed2k (my original client) so highly in the first place.
But seriously, I'm thinking of sending that towell flying!
Cheers again for your past help
Joe.

ED2K in comparison with the mule never got me any where. Well not really really bad but running on MorphXT from the start only did me good.
So i wouldn't throw that towell yet

Oh and I tried Kerio myself also. I wouldn't touch Norton.
Kerio wouldn't even allow me online in the slightest. Even if I allowed firefox through it wouldn't connect! IE wouldn't connect either.
I've also tried it in the past, 'cos I mentioned that I tried most (if not all) of the google help pages on this problem (two months of trying to sort this problem... yes, even translating the foreign pages from Google!)
I'm not at me wits end quite yet, but I have just about had enough.
Cheers
Mr Sooner.

You could also try using different mods. Tried something like Neo already?
Always could give it a go.
