I'm thinking about that, yeah. In my case it will mean buy new hardware and install everything, as my current HDD isn't worth mentioning.

BTW, your sample is progressive and it has stairstepping artifacts... TempGaussMC is not the solution. I'll try some antialiasing filters.

got a starting point? its pure NTSC, and i think the stepping is from mpeg2 compression.

AnimeIVTC(): http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=138305you don't need it for IVTCing, but this filter has also some great antialiasing functions: Quote: | Very good combing removal and anti-aliasing functions (can be called externally as nnediaa() daa() and maa()) |
I'd try nnediaa()

Trying to do some ripping again, but I get the following problem:
After ripping the DVD in File mode with DVD Decrypter, I'm preparing the VOBs as usual, but I get loads of blocking errors and motion errors and some other error which escapes me now. I already tried to rip it a second time, but the result was the same. It is not the source: the DVD itself doesn't display any errors. What can I do to solve this problem?

Use AnyDVD. DVD Decrypter fails if the DVD is protected by newer technologies.

Mmm, the DVD is not that new, so I doubt it is protected by newer technologies. I tried AnyDVD, but for some reason it flashes the window and then disappears, so I can't take any action with it. Maybe I should go look for a newer version or something, mine is 4.1.0.1, so...

Tried with AnyDVD version 6.4.5.6 and gotr the same result. It turns out that if I rip the DVD to my IDE HDD I get these errors, when I rip it to the SATA HDD it doesn't.
New problem: when I want to do a compcheck, everything is fine (editing the avs, previewing, etc) until I want to press OK to start the compcheck, then I get an error: Failed to get data for 'use_bvop'. Any recommendations?

I'd try nnediaa() |
I used the following script:
# PLUGINS LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\GORDIA~1\DGMPGDec\DGDecode.dll") LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\GORDIA~1\AviSynthPlugins\UnDot.dll") LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\GORDIA~1\AviSynthPlugins\Convolution3d.dll") LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\GordianKnot\AviSynthPlugins\nnedi.dll")
import("C:\Program Files\Video\Scripts\AnimeIVTC.avsi") import("C:\Program Files\Video\Scripts\TempGaussMC_alpha3.avsi") import("C:\Program Files\Video\Scripts\MCBob.avsi")
# SOURCE mpeg2source("D:\encodes\soldiers of the dead\soldiers of the dead.d2v")
# CROPPING crop(2,64,716,352)
# NNEDIAA nnediaa()
# RESIZING spline16Resize(656,352)
# DENOISING: choose one combination (or none) Undot() Convolution3d("movielq")
|
but still have stepping... anything else that can be done?

This looks good on your sample: Code: | DGDecode_mpeg2source("H:\videos\samples\spud\sample.d2v")
nnediaa().maa()
crop( 2, 62, 0, -60) Spline36Resize(656,352) |

I have this movie in the ripping process which shows blockiness in high motion scenes during "Preview". So, I assume I'm gonna need a deblocking script. I found this one, but it says it is for h264. Is it also suitable for XviD? Or do I need a different one?

It's not for h264, it's based on h264 deblocking routines. You can use it, but it's pretty strong, so you will lose details. Since you are not posting a sample, I can't guess what kind of deblocking you'll need. I'd stat with Deblock QED MT2 like this: Code: | deblock_qed( quant1=20,quant2=24, aOff1=2,bOff1=4,aOff2=4,bOff2=8 ) |
use it before cropping or resizing.

Deblock QED MT2 (see link above) + dfttest do a decent job: Comparison: when the amount of blocks is too high it fails, but if you want to get those few very blocky frames you'll kill all the details of the good frames: Script: Code: | Import("D:\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\DeBlock_QED_MT2.avs")
DGDecode_mpeg2source("H:\videos\samples\slayer\SampleWarrior.d2v")
deblock_qed( quant1=0,quant2=45)
crop( 0, 0, -2, -4) Spline36Resize(720,400)
dfttest(tbsize=3,tosize=1) |
