I have to say I saw some pretty fascinating movies on this forum and I am just too desperate to download the files.

When I downloaded emule I saw in the help section that it is better to download movies with more than 150 sources. Most of the movies here don't have that many sources. Also I saw somewhere that emule will work better only if it is on 24 yrs. My internet connection is from 10.00 pm night to 8.00 am.It is only for 10 hrs.So is it useless to download emule?

Yesterday I tried to download a movie with 300 sources. After 2 hrs of waiting finally the download started and the speed of the download was abt 3 kbps.So what do i do?Sorry for the long post!!

First off, the key to using the ed2K network is patience. It's not a network for grabbing one file at a time, you need to queue up a lot and your client (which should be an emule mod, not eDonkey BTW) can grab lots of chunks of lots of movies. :)

My internet connection is only on from 6.30pm to 11:00pm at most, and I do quite well out of it. Not as well as some, I'm sure, but I'm happy.

Also, at the beginning your downloads will be slower until your client builds upload credit. Once you've been sharing for a while you should be able to get close to maxxing out your connection with a healthy queue.

credit files are the heart of emule. To build credit you have to upload enough, once you do you get ranked higher in download queues.

ed2k protocol is slow (and very old). Unlike bit torrent, it works with having huge queues for large chunks, where as say torrent, gets it speed from being tiny queues for tiny chunks.

its kind of a funnny thing for new emule users, having to upload to get better downloads (since well, they are new and have just started so have nothing to upload as such).

Make sure you cap your upload at 80% of line maximum, but make sure its at least over 10kb/s or download is restricted.

Queue up a number of files and then leave emule on for several days.

Everyone started off on emule at some point, but things get faster.

Make sure you've got all the standard stuff:
highid
firewall configured correctly
upload at the right setting
etc.
