I'm considering using 2 BB connections, one cable and 1 adsl

It works out @ ~?40 a month, but it would mean that you could leave one connection (the slower of the 2) completly free for VOIP / browsing etc and have the other permanently p2p'ing

Does anyone use a set up like this?
How awkward would it be to integrate it into my existing network (nothing overly complicated, it's just that i'm not sure how you would tell each machine which connection to use)?

I already have a dedicated p2p machine so it would be a question of that machine having a bb connection to itself whilst being part of the network, possible?

You can also buy one of those heavy duty routers that can split the traffic over the two lines. Don't know how good they are, but i know they exist for the reason of utilising two connections simultaneously.

It would probably be more sensible in this case to just leav one free idling until used and the other connection p2p'ing

The othe can be used for newsgroups etc then ;)

 Bulldog have been pretty good so far, including changing me to a fixed IP within a couple of hours of asking!

Second question regarding this setup - I have 2 routers, one router/modem for DSL and 1 ethernet router for cable, is there any way to conect the whole lot to one network and then use the gateway to pick which router it uses?

this diagram should explain better :
Image
Router 1 (and all the machines attatched to it) will connect to the ADSL connection
Router 2 and the machine connected to it will use the Cable connection (and run emule)
The reason is that I want a completely free connection for everything other than emule

Is that do-able and is there anything I need to know?

All machines will have a static IP (as shown) although I would if preferable like to keep DHCP on on router 1 for further wireless connections

not really, you just have to manually set the gateway for pc2 i'd have thought and the others left as network. You can turn off the DHCP server on router 2. You'll have to plug it directly to pc2 and then set it up, then wire it up to the rest of your network.

So essentially you should only need static ips for router2 and pc2

PC_Arcade, weren't you on NTL before - then ditched it for ADSL? And now you're going back to NTL again. I'm intrigued to see how this goes as I can get NTL in my house as wel, though I'm using Pipex at the moment.

I was, the only reason I ditched them was due to their fucking stupid cap, which they've now dropped, so I'm on ADSL with Bulldog, I've got 2 routers setup now, so all I need is the 2nd ISP connection I'll let you know if it all works tomorrow

Well, for those of you wondering whether or not this would work -

It does :)

I'm downloading at ~130Kb on emule (although it's still going up) and I have a completlely free connection for browsing, WoW and VoIP etc :beerchug:
