Using GK, set 1CD = 700MB, Number CD = 2 CD and Split final file into CD's unchecked, the resulting file was a superb rip, but was ~1800MB :o

I've never done a rip > 700MB before, and 1CD rips always end up ~700MB using GK so anyone know where I'm going wrong?

When I'm having over-sized rip problems, I usually just re-install Gknot. Hope that solves the issue :)

It could be related to this: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t ... ss+bitrate

Try going into the 2nd pass settings explicitly before you start the encode.

There's a tab in gknot with options, press the buttons to delete your registry keys, then go in and setup your default xvid passes.

Make sure xvid is setup right too. For the button next to profile@level:
BVOP = 2, Ratio= 1.50, erm next box = 1.0

Then on the quantizers, set all the minimums to 2. You should only set 1 if you get undersizing.

I've done everything that was suggested except on the quantizers, set all the minimums to 2 as I don't know where to find this. This time I tried a 1/3 DVD rip, and the file was 1.90GB.

keep clicking the buttons, i think its the third box down or that box on the bottom in the middel. First tab will have a box with either "300" or "250" (you put 250 for pal, 300 for NTSC) and those drop down boxes to set the search radius (5. Wide Search I think is default). On the next tab there's a series of minimums, all of which should be 2.

Make sure your adding is right in gknot, that you've selected the right audio track and that you've selected the right allocation from the overhead drop down box (and unchecked the box below it)
