I'm downloading a DVDR movie that's 4.40 GB. How do I go about watching it when I get it, and could anyone be so kind as point me towards a tute on how I might burn this onto a DVD?

I just got a new PC, and I'm totally new to this, as must be obvious.

what is it? iso? rars? vobs?

if its an iso, use dvddecrypter to burn to a dvdr, if its rars, use winrar to extract to either iso or vobs. if its vobs, create a structure:
DVD_NAME
|-AUDIO_TS
|-VIDEO_TS

and put all your vobs and ifo files into VIDEO_TS, then use imagetool classic to create a iso/nrg and use dvddecrypter to burn.

I finished downloading, it was a RAR, I extracted it to an ISO, and mouted it using Daemon tools. Ran it using VLC media player. It works but looks a bit odd, when the images are relatively still they look ok, but in action scenes the edges of things look kind of jaggy, like there are lines going through them.

I'm going to try burning to a DVD next, maybe it will look better on my TV. I'm going to go download dvddecrypter now. Really appreciate the help :beerchug:

its called interlacing, pc monitors do not interlace the picture which is why the picture quality is significantly higher, tvs on the other hand do.

The concept of interlacing is bad and a remnant of a crappy tv system we have that still persist.

There's a bit on it here:
http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=526

If you watch interlaced content on a tv it will be deinterlaced unless your using a progressive setup (component or your dvd player is set to output progressive images)

If you want to watch on your pc, you can simply use post processing and select deinterlace from the list of filters in your favourite plater (provided its a good one).

btw. its the reason if you ever do a dvdrip you need to deinterlace, for people watching on progressive setups :) If it is a dvdr with the video re-encoded, the ripper really should have used deinterlacing, but I guess the assumption was it was going to be played back on a pc.
