For the last 2 weeks I have this high frequency sound coming from my pc......a gentle kick had no effect.... :?

It sounds like my hd "has no oil left", iron on iron.... :?

I would say that would be the fans.

But my old HD, a Tabor, I was getting bsod's ALL the time, HD would Clank and Clank then spit ouit a write error.

Check your fans first.

Lots of corruption and failer to Defrag and/or scandisk are some otheres.

sound like its full of sand and rusty nails? if its the drive you use for emule try giving it a break, switch emule drives if you have another one, then do deepcleaning/reformating/discanning, and flip the hardrive upside down/sideways for a couple months. thats what i do and its worked everytime.

ah, but nobody listens to me.

i use a little monitor proggie called Speedfan to check temps/fan speed/voltages/S.M.A.R.T. info for HDD. it is freeware
http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
may be of some help
but 90% of noises from my pcs are usually knackered fans (like satan suggested)

hdd failure sounds like clicking and stuttering, the high pitch sound sounds like a fan problem as mentioned earlier.

Take off the side of ur pc and locate the noise, if it's coming from the hdd, then yes, unfortunately it is a sign of failure in the near future :(

Hmm,my computer totally crashed in the last 4 weeks......that's what you get for keeping your eMule running for 2 years.... :D :?

First the fan of the power-supply failed(I didn't notice that!) so my machine got really hot, then my HD crashed because of that and 4 days after I got a new 120 gig HD my GF4400 quits its service.....

Shitty situation..but now I've got a Radeon 9800pro and can enjoy May Payne 2 in full detail!!!

All I need now is a new motherboard and a new processor and I've got a complete new system...

/me hugs his new radeon 9800 xt

Some dumb ass delivery guy took ages delivering it, but it was worth it. Finally got my 200GB hdd too, so I can get back to ripping. Bride of Chucky Commentries next.

Hmm,I set it to full detail and it runs smoothly...only eMule gets down to zero while playing..and i just have a XP1800+ ...

I think those ultra-ultra-versions of graphic-cards are just something for benchmark freaks, our poorly developed human eye doesn't bother if a game runs with 50,75 or 120 frames....

No, just if you want to play HL2 on full specs  Only reason I bought it :)

:matrix: Alien

Max Payne 2 engine seems identical to that of Max Payne one apart from the addition of Havoc physics engine (although looks nowhere near as good as it's implementation in HL2). The difference between the pro and XT shouldn't be visible in many games out now, I was just playing Call of Duty and felt the need to proclaim the excellence of the Radeon 9xxxx range. Switched from nvidia and am very glad i did :)

Yep,I also got my first Radeon now (before that GF2gts,GF3 and GF4400) and I think it was a good choice...
Now that I've got something in comparison I get the feeling the colors on Nvidia-cards look a little "blurrish"....

I was wondering about this, I've been using mlDonkey and Bittorrent for quite some time now and my hard drive is completely bollocksed now, makes horrible clicking noises on start-up.

So does eMule/eDonkey/mlDonkey fragment the hard drive? Is file-sharing responsible for my paralysed hard drive? I noticed in the new version of Bittorrent it allocates the files as they download instead of giving you the full file and filling in the chunks.
