I have been using DVD ripper, DVD2AVI and VirtualDubMod but read somewhere that DVD2AVI is a "real turkey" and we should all be using Gordian Knot.

I have been following the instructions which says to use Robot4Rip as the first stage, it's ripped the DVD to my hard drive no problem but it's been stuck for about 2.5 hours saying "Indexing with D:\Program Files\Gordian Knot\DVD2AVI.exe" and a bunch of parameters. :(

I can't see this being right, DVD2AVI used to take me half an hour or so, has anyone else experienced this problem and how do I resolve it?

BTW if Gordian Knot uses the same tools I have been using manually then how can it produce better results? :?

Gordian knot just acts as a GUI front-end for a bunch of applications so if you're familiar with the individual apps, don't bother.

I've heard people complain about robot4rip, so maybe it's better not to use it.

My GKnot ripping goes like this :

1. Rip DVD manually with DVDDecrypter
2. Open VOBs with DVD2AVI and save a project with audio demuxed
3. Open Gknot and load the .d2v project file.

So I only use GK for the encoding part, and I've not had any major problems doing it that way.

HTH

erm, i use dvddecryptor and then load the vobs into dvd2avi, click save project and it takes about 10mins or so here to process the project in dvd2avi. Load up the dvd2avi project and we're off. Uninstall and reinstall and try again following what the guide says to the button is the best advice I can give. If the problem persists, try doom9.org forums, they will most likely know if its a known problem or soemthing.

Cos your human, hence likely to f*ck up like the rest of the race  The thing with gknot is that it uses the best settings and a better gui for the entire process; if you know what your doing use what you want.

Thx Spud. Re-installed GKnot and that's fixed the probs I had, but decided to use dvddecryptor, dvd2avi & bsweet before using gknot, they're straightforward enough progs :D
