Have an RCA Modem, and a Smartlink Ethernet card.

Running XP PRO.

Now, It takes 10 minutes after a reboot for DHCP to register a Workable IP address.

This happened before the router was connected.

Always get the basic 169.xx.xx.xx addy.
But after 10 minutes, it registers the IP and it works fine.

Just wanting to know WHY IN THE HELL it would take 10 minutes for this shit.

Any other questions you may have, please ask.
I'm baffled and can't get support from MS on a pirated OS.=)

thanks for any help on this.

Well, It takes the same time with or without my router.

Disabled Sygate in my services, with it not loaded, and still the same shit.

Tried another Ethernet card, still the same.

Please ask for more info if needed.

I'm quite pissed.

I have XP Pro and connect my modem via a network card too, I had this problem, but never found a fix, well I did but it was no simple, other circumstances required a re-install of XP Pro and this fixed the problem LOL

Have you tried removing the network components of XP and re-installing them? It has helped me in the past. Disabling Sygate from starting may not make much difference, I have had connection problems in the past and simply stopping sygate from running made no difference, it only made a difference when I actually uninstalled sygate. Have you also checked the shitty XP firewall aint running? Have a look and see if you have alg.exe running as a process, if you have then you may be double firewalled and that could cause issues too.

If none of the above helps then I will be of no further use as when I had this issue even my ISP was unable to help me.
