DVD burner blues

My DVD burner is an Asus DRW-0402P/D (based on the Pioneer A06) and is supposedly +/-r and +/-rw compatible.

Up to now I've been using -r (no probs) and -rw (Datawrite) which wrote fine the first time but wouldn't rewrite so I tried some +rw (Sony & Verbatim), 2.4x certified, but Nero gives "Illegal disc" error when trying to burn these.

I've had a search through the Asus website and tried Google but no joy. Anyone got any ideas? :twisted:

i have no asus george but got the same problem with my btc dvd burner as i bought it. could burn dvd+r succesfully but had no succesful burned dvd-r, they all got destroyed.
a firmware update and everything was fine.

Thx Gorehound but I tried that this morning, forgot to mention I was running firmware V1.05 and upgraded to V1.07

Btw I put this in the wrong section, should have been in help. Could one of the mods rectify this pls?

Have you tried a different burning program George? I always found Nero a pain and subsequently binned it. I now use Prassi Primo DVD which works great, although I think it's now been replaced with Stomp Recordnow Max.

Thx DJ, I re-installed the Asus/Sonic burning software that came with the burner and it burnt a Verbatim +RW no bother. I had uninstalled this software and gone back to Nero because when I first got the burner it was making a lot of coasters, and I'd never had any trouble with Nero until now.

Btw I think the problem may be that my system aspi drivers were corrupt even though I had set Nero to use internal aspi. I've re-installed aspi but it needs a reboot which I can't do yet. :beerchug:

I know at least one bug in 6.0.. When burning a few movies on a dvd, they are burned in the wrong order (z-a)..

Not a problem using a pc, but my standalone (divx/xvid capable) sorts like crap (just the first 12 characters i think). So if it's a long filename, the second part of a 2-cd movie plays first.

It's fixed in 6.0.0.3 though....

I installed V6.3.0.3 this morning, still won't burn +RW. Seems the time is right to ditch Nero.

I had a look at Stomp Recordnow Max, turns out it came with my burner, rebadged Asus/Sonic Recordnow. I had a major crash the other day and needed to reinstall XP so Nero's gone. Recordnow does the business no probs.
