sticking with the original huh?

Well with donkey there isn't much to go wrong really as far as settings go. Connections go up and down but 1000 is about right, normally never reaches that. Line is your actual line.

1mbit? 1024 / 8 = 128 theoretical line speed, put in 140 as max line speed anyway. Cap should be 128. Upload is, assuming you have 256, line speed is 32, cap should be 20 at the least, mine's fine up to 26 then things can get messy at that point.

Apart from that, get yourself on a big server and cross your fingers. You just don't get overwhelming speeds unfortunately, its not the donkey to bet on.

Might want to try emule;

advice and suggestions on setting that up (and technically edonkey by proxy) is up on the frontpage btw, look at the site FAQ

I got better speeds when I moved to emule, but more importantly, more control over downloads, i.e where they are placed, the prioritising of some files over others, the ability to pause some and have them restart as another finishes etc.

Plus most importantly it's FAR better for releasing.

eMule is definitely better. For all the reasons PCA mentioned. :)

Are you behind a router?
What are your max sources and connections set to?
What client are you using?

If you can let us know, I'm sure we'll be able to help :)

try changing max connections to 5000, when I wasn't behind a router those settings were good for me.

The problem with emule (and it's associated settings) is what works for you, may not work for me (and vice-versa).

I'm on NTL 1Mb connection and my settings are 500 max sources and 240 max connections and I average at ~85-90 Kbps download, upload is always max.

you might want to check what the number of connections your getting before doing that, you need ultra-T3 to use anywhere near that many connections, therefore doing so won't make the blindest bit of difference (unless its to trick your brain into thinking its going faster ;) )

I agree that it never used that many connections, but for some reason it was faster with that setting than it was at ~1000

If you run the wizard, it should give you the ideal setting for your line (apparently!)

Bear in mind it takes a while to "settle down" and reach full speed, so leave it for a few hours to check properly.

First of all, you don't need that many connections per file. 350-400 is a reasonable number. I always set my max connections at 5000. Then - try changing mods, gnad used to have some speed issues on some machines. Try sivka, it was almost stable and really fast. It takes a moment until it reaches its full speed.
