just read this "how often do u format" post and thought - not so often but will do in the near future... the last time i did a year ago i think.
now i got the following fuckin problem:
after being online some time my browser won?t connect to any site. it just will say "www.blablabla.com" could not be found.
tried different browsers. same problem.
virscans negative. backdoorscans negative.
activate/deactivate firewall - same problem.
when i restart the system everything will be fine again.
until next time. wtf? :o

And when you reconnect without restarting your system?

Ok, so I'm asking what happens if you close your connection and establish it once again. I mean your ineternet connection, not the connection to the site.

Wrong section btw.

Some DSL connections become latent if there is no activity on certain OS's. What's your operating system?

Have you had this problem from the beginning, or just recently?

browser is mozilla. OS is XP Prof.
and the problems have arisen just recently.
i have got a serious suspicion though.
i installed those anonymizer prog called ?steganos internet anonym? - some weeks ago. prog will lead your data stream over a proxy-roulette to hide your ip on webservers. but i got this problem even if this program isn?t running....
perhaps i should deinstall that prog.
otherwise.....my last formatting?s one year ago.....perhaps i should take out the big hammer and....

Those anonymyzers can cause a lot of trouble. And definitely you shouldn't use them with your eMule. Try deinstalling that crap.

methinks that it has set the proxy to 127.0.0.1 and then with the proxy app down it won't connect to the net. You need to just uncheck all the boxes in proxy settings if thats the case.

in proxies there is "direct connection to the internet" marked.
under manually proxy configuration no box has an entry.
and under "no proxy for:" stands 127.0.0.1 :D
so with the setting "direct connection to the internet" everything should be fine, right?

ah, and poly: the prog didn?t retard the mule at all.... :wacky:

that doesn't explain how resetting his pc makes everything fine. Unless its the act of disconnecting rather than restarting that refreshes his connection?

DNS client dies/hangs/stop working quite often on Win9X systems and sometimes on 2k/xp too. The cause could be a corrupted or specially crafted response, usual Microsoft $hit, sun flares, whatever.

Restarting DNS client (control panel.services.dns client) on 2k/xp usually helps.
