How can you hardcode .idx or .sub files into a Xvid file?

Why would you want to?

There's a filter in virtual dub that can hardcode subs if i recall correctly, but imo, its totally useless

You need to open your movie file in Virtualdub.

Apply the subtitle filter (I think the subs need to be in .ssa format)

Then frameserve the whole lot to TMPGEnc.

Most sub/idx files can be easily converted to SRT using VobSub Subresync.

didn't think of that, look on http://www.divx-digest.com for a sub converter. Then just convert them to srt or a format you support. A lot easier than re-encoding :)
