I was DLing Visiting Hours until I noticed this at startup:

Error: Invalid part.met fileversion! (289.part.met => )

Now it has disappeared from my transfer list, although it's still there in my temp folder. Can I get this back or do I need to start over? :?

there's a thread somewhere about this but i don't mind a bit of reposting. This is a common problem, be it in donkey or mule.

The problem is your part.met file has gotten corrupted, this is normally the case if you reset your pc or it crashes whilst emule is saving data to the part.met

You can get the .met back easily though, providing you do not uninstall emule or replace/remove your known.met file!

The utility to fix this is called donkey doctor, and you can download it from our frontpage:
http://www.dead-donkey.com/modules.php? ... load&cid=5

Yeah but most times rather than not I have found that it is unrecoverable..especially in the case of a crash situation...the end result is I have to redownload the file.Donkey doctor will work sometimes for me but it isn't a fix it all utility. You would think that there would be something else out there that did the job at least 80% of the time.

Unfortunately it didn't work, so I'll have to start again from scratch. :(

there is another way to do it manually too ofcource.

1. start the download up a-new.

2. check filedetails to see the filename of the new file. example: 10.part.met

3. Delete 10.part in temp folder (delete with explorer, don't cancel with emule)

4. rename the old .part to fit the new .met (in this case to 10.part)

I guess this is probably just the same that donkey doctor does but in some cases it has been more successfull for me.

If there's a reset or crash, check your found.00x directories.

For example if you have the Temp directory on drive J:, then you must check J:\FOUND.000 (and next time found.001, found.002 etc.). There you'll see file.chk files. Open them one by one with Notepad and you'll see that they're actually 1.part.met files and at the top you'll see which temp file they belong.

For example you'll see FILE0001.CHK in FOUND.000 directory. When you open it with Notepad you'll see a line like this:
Code:
?    ?Ÿ??Kğ/?C?#???   ) dead.alive.1992.divx5.ac3.2ch.cd1-waf.avi

Copy the FILE001.CHK file to your dead.alive.1992.divx5.ac3.2ch.cd1-waf.avi directory and change its name to 1.part.met

Voila, your download is rescued.

You are one the lucky ones then.Like I said though usually the ones that don't get fixed are the ones resulting from a crash. Most other corruption issues mule handles itself through ICH which is quite handy for me.Not saying it doesn't work at all, just that most of the time for me it doesn't and wished it did. :googley:

ICH has nothing to do with invalid .part.met files. It's to do with corrupted chunks. The problem here is truncated .part.met which leads them to be seen as invalid. If the hash data is stored in known.met and you select the correct part file, it will (or should) always generate a new part.met. The only way it can't is if you replace your known.met or change client (that's why you put your emule directory to, D:\Programs\Filesharers\eMule\config in options)

Or that's how it should work in theory

I just use the backup feature, and whenever this happens, I just put the backup part.met file in the temp folder.

Works 100% of the time.
