I know there are some threads here about emule mods but I still couldn't really find the information I need.

I'm new to emule and just today I got to know that there are mods for it.

I'm using version 0.42d and it seems that none of the popular mods (the black hand, LSD, sivka...) are based on anything newer than 0.30e or so.

So are you guys still using these 0.30e mods or something for 0.42d or what?

How do you collect the information about all the mods and newer emule versions to find the features you need?
It seems almost impossible to find clear information about what features a certain mod has over the basic emule program...
The only mod that seems to have a nice website with comprehensive presentation of the mod, its features etc. is eMule Plus.

How do I know what mod is the best for me?
Maybe there's no other way than to try them all out one by one...
and that's not likely to happen.

But I know many of you use mods so can you tell me of a few main features why you use a certain mod and would you use that mod based on an older version of eMule (such as 0.30e) rather than use the latest eMule version?

EDIT:
also another OT question: do you use Kademlia? Since its disabled by default in eMule, I've not bothered with it. What do you think?

i have been using the morph mod (v.042d MorphXT2.3) for a month or more and have been well impressed with it, upload speeds have been great for releasing and download speeds have been the best i've ever got with emule and believe me i've used a LOT of mods

What i do is install the mod and try it out!

The thing about emule seems to be what works for one won't work for another!!!

I use emule-mods it's a german site but they house all the mods for emule in various version forms. and it's not to hard to navigate to the download link

Some mods are starting to come out for 0.42 but yes the majority of stable ones are still in .030.

So the best thing to do is trial and error, although if the mule you're using at the mo is giving you good speeds and rarely crashes
DON'T TEMPT FATE!
I was a sivka man myself till they stopped releasing updates and have settled for pawcio, which is 0.42 :D

I tried it but CPU went through the roof, features look great (but easily abusable).

I'm going to retry it :)

@paul, that site is months out of date, I think its much better just to navigate the MOD forum @ emule-project.net. The bonus there being anti-mule mods are banned and they are always the latest versions.

my CPU usage for it is about 4% and memory usage is at 72,880 atm but it's very stable for me  what would you say is abusable on it?

@paul....damn man where ya been? :P ...nobody uses that site for mods anymore

infact why doesn't anyone ever suggest the emule-project forum? they have all the mods listed there as far as i can tell :D

Look at the sharing options ;) If you set them up wrong, you leech off people without giving them shit back because it treats everyone unevenly. Just take a look through the options and think about what each one does.

Well - you'll forgive me for being....lets say a couple of months outa date!

And I just noticed that they have LSD as like the most popular download and in top 10...whicjh if not mistaken is not 100% emule compliant with it's modifications?

Any how, I'm outa this topic....................

Bassline, its the hashing thats the problem methinks, tries to do it all at once and then screws itself up in the process. I'll see if i can load a handful more in at a time. Dunno why its not using the known files listing though

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the 40+ series of numbers used for Kad? I thought 30 was plain mule. I am using MorphXT, been real cool for me, on average around 2% CPU.

I tried eMule Plus, it seemed alright with some nice features... I made it use the same temp folder as my eMule installation ... I had it on for some hours but it didn't download anything, only uploaded a lot of stuff (I didn't check what was happening in the log though)
OK so I went back to the traditional eMule and now its rehashing all of my temp files! for every file it says "file seems to be ok", though.
What's this all about?

I think I wanna try MorphXT now but how should I do it ...?
Install MorphXT in a new folder, and then make it use the eMule temp folders so that I can continue downloading the parts I've done with eMule?

Is there a problem with this, can I get my files corrupted or something? :(

It means the file IS FINE!

eMule will do that when you switch versions or shut it down abrubtly.

It's just playing safe and double checking/hashing you're temp files for you!

a question about MorphXT v2.3:

the majority of my shared files are automatically put into Powershare mode... is this good?
doesn't putting nearly all of my shared files into powershare kind of wipe out the very point behind the feature?

should I, and how to disable this automatic powersharing?

also, what's the advantages and difference between "Release" priority and Powershare? Having Powershare enabled for a file, do I have any advantage if I also switch its priority to Release?

There seems to be no actual documentation for any of this

You need to go into options and set it from there. Afraid I cant remember exactly where these options are, but I switch all that auto shit off, I prefer to do it manually.

Well there's some dubious options you need to be weary of, if you are intending to pimp out your own releases, no its very bad. You only want stuff your releasing to be on powershare.

Secondly, be sure you turn off intelligent chunk spreading, etc. This makes it looks like there are no full sources and you can get all muddled.

Thirdly, make sure you set all files to public, the other modes are extremely anti-network if you ask me.

AFAF, I'd put to manage yourself... emule doesn't have a clue what films are good and bad

Preferences --> Morph
Under Download Management, look half way down and uncheck "New download blah blah in powershare".

Under upload manager, take a look at the auto sensing and various options, but becareful your upload doesn't drown your download.

If you have a decent enough pc, check infinite queue. Below that is a friends push option and community tag setting.

Overshares before --> 5
****UNCHECK***** selective chunk sharing

------
A word of advice for anyone with a lot of temp files, they need to all be rehashed! Best way to stop emule from dying is to copy say 50 part / part.met couples at a time and let them rehash, then move on through all your files.

@Taky, you don't have to enable kad if u run the updated versions mind, theres an option to check when you first install and in preferences.

Kad appears to be coming along well now, I get some decent speeds from kad clients.
