Have you tried <a href="http://www.bsplayer.org/" target=blank>BSPlayer</a>?

That application allows you (by right clicking to get menu drop down list) to browse for subs and load them manually?

Worth a try to see if the subs work at all and it's not just a problem of your app automatically loading them?

In my experience SUB files usually come with IDX files. Did you get the files from an archive? You should look there.

Also, BSPlayer doesn't work for me when using SUB/IDX files, I use Koala Player for those. Search this board for a download link.

Tell me if I'm stating the bloody obvious but have you installed Vobsub (vsfilter.dll)?

Switch from that WMP!!...nothing in the world sucks more...there is pro versions of Zplayer on the network and other like Bsplayer which there is full versions on edk as well.Vobsub is the way to go for the subs...sometimes I get a bit buggy with ffdshow but that works as well.

Just use SubRip to rip subtitles from .sub and .idx files. This way you'll have the text .sub file and will be able to see subtitles with any player.

very true, and even if you want to keep it simple, switch to "Media Player Classic", which is just a better version of WMP when it used to be bareable :)
