I recently got a file that's 702MB, and is too big to fit on CD-R. I thought that's how much CD-Rs hold? How much do I have to trim off from it, and how can I do it?

Load in VdubMOD and set everything to direct strem copy.. make sure only the streams you want are in the files (the file might have 2 audio streams or somthing) then use the timer set marks to trim off the end and begining credits.....
Otherwise you will need to recode the entire file.

alternatively, use nandub, go to video>direct stream copy, audio>interleaving, and increase the value (don't go above 92ms or you may get sync issues)
64 or 92ms are the best for AC3

if you know the file is intended to fit on a cdr, try a different brand of cdrs. there is info available on the web about how much data different brands can hold.
I had an odd problem burning an SVCD some weeks back. Nero would say the data doesn't fit on the disc but VCDEasy burnt it fine.
and yes, I know how to burn (S)VCD's.
