Just got a NEC burner today... pretty cool.
Anyway:

What would you recommend using to burn image files?
I got a movie in *.img format, and it's not supported by Nero or Alcohol.

I am a n00b, I need some help!

Should I rename the file, or find another program besides the 2 stated above?

Stomp RecordNow Max (Formerly Prassi Primo DVD).

It's probably worth having an image manipulating app such as Isobuster or WinISO to extract from the image and check the file structure plays OK in PowerDVD before you burn to disc.

i would use ISOBUSTER on the .img file and extract the VIDEO_TS folder to the HD then use Nero to burn it.

no way, I use it all the time for .NRGs made from imgTool, and it can do all the image formats.

Well, I got some crew released Snatch DVD-R on mIRC and it's in *.img format.
I trust that it's complete/error free, I did a checksum and everything and tested it out in VideoLAN.

I'm just gonna open in DVD Decryptor and burn.

I used DVD Decrypter to write my first DVD-R

4x, good media... I just got a BRAND NEW COMPUTER, but I was experiencing some buffer underrun problems.

Buffer would drop to 0 for no reason and then climb back to 100 after a few seconds.

I have an NEC drive, and it's quality. I am confused and disappointed, BUT the DVD-R is playing perfectly in my player.

Any suggestions?

lol NEC... quality! Lets just say they're track record in the media writing areana isn't so hot ;)

Remember buffer underruns = DEVICE buffer underruns. If that goes everywhere, then its a problem, if its the read buffer it doesn't matter.

But I always burn stuff from a fast SATA drive (on its own ide channel). Just make sure you aren't utilising the hard disk (as in nothing else is reading/writing to) and its free to transfer data.

The writer should be on a channel by itself, or with another idle device. Your IDE channel should not be in use apart from access the image file and writing to the disc.

Alright, thanks Spud.
I updated the firmware from 1.06->1.07
That might help.

I actually don't know too much about adding hardware/optical drives to my computer.

I just hooked this drive up to the power source and ide cable, and that was it. Do I have to make it the slave drive or anything like that? I didn't think that I'd have a problem.

I got some dvds tonight so I'll try it out again, I might just try using Nero to burn the shit to dvd-r.

You shouldn't have it on any channel with a hard drive. I have mine, two writers, two hard drives, then 2 SATA hard drives. Only time I have buffer problems is if I use a drive I'm reading from, or if some program crashes/uses lots of ram.

And normally then its fine anyway.

Hells yes! Just ripped the Southpark DVD to my harddrive with DVD Decrypter. Again, the buffer dropped to zero, but there were no read errors, and I checked in ISOBuster just to make sure.

Burned with Nero 6.3, and worked fine, buffers stayed 96% and above. Only thing that I noticed was that the "time remaining" on the burn was inaccurate, but my guess is that it was a conflict with which speed I was using (in this case, 2x) and Nero.

Perfect burn!

ripping with buffer at zero is fine (infact highly desirable), writing with buffer at zero is not.
