Hi all,

I have been pretty successful spliting avi's and burning as SVCD. Now I have a problem because the films are getting bigger. If I buy a DVD writer, can i burn multiple films as SVCD onto a blank DVD media or can it only be as DVD. What a way of storing films. Any help will be appreciated and help with my choice.

Steve

You mean to play in your standalone? I believe you can do a SVCD project on DVD and it should work the same providing your player can play SVCDs and read your DVD-r/+r media. You'll have to download the bin files, extract the MPEG2, then drop it in a sDVD project I'd suspect. Best way to appease the xVCD problem if you don't have a decent setup to play MPEG4 or enough bandwidth for DVDr.

On the pc front, VLC can play snizzel from bin files, but if you play them on pc/tv-out or have a divx player you wouldn't be bothering with that svcd stuff since its not as good quality or/and larger filesize in comparison to mpeg4. I just burn 6 avis to a DVD-r :)

if you get a standalone , that will play mpeg from the 'root' folder . you can run a simple extracttion , chapter removal , and burn the mpeg file onto a DVD player (if this is an option)

i just got a stand alone (while it has some limitations /dosent play Qpel,OGM without some fartsing around with it) that plays DivX,XviD,Mpeg1(vcd),SVCD,KVCD,KDVD,AVI,SUBs,MP3,JPG,DVD-R,DVD+R,CDr,CD-RW for $69 USD - Philips DVP642

that solves my problems (most of them)

find your player at http://www.videohelp.com and see if it will play from the ROOT folder of a DVD , if it does or you want to test it

download VCDGear at videohelp above or http://www.doom9.org
launch the program
in OPTIONS , check off "disable MPEG file splitting, hit 'ok'
in "EXTRACTION/Conversion" choose
"cue/bin ->Mpeg"
load - find the CUE file
pick a place to save it
hit start

burn onto the "Root" folder of a DVD (along with 5 or 6 others)

good luck
_ImA :D

PS: if i use my TV out , i have to disable my second monitor , which is unacceptable , why is that ? well maybe a discussion for another thread

If you mean you can only have or the other monitors at a time; Crap graphics card using a poor chipset... either a geforce 440mx or a geforce 2? Most of the geforce3s and 4s were alright, of course, ATI cards have no problems.

Unless you mean that you have two monitors and you want to use tv-out, in that case, your graphics card only has two output chipsets, it can't use three because... well it only has two, so your restricted to a maximum of two 'monitors' ;)
