Hi...
I have a Standalone Divx DVD player, but it doesn't seem to like Xvid much. (Gets choppy and picture distorts sometimes).
So before I burn stuff I re-compress it in Divx 5.02.
So I'm wondering...in a VirtualDub recompression operation, what is the most important piece of hardware?
Is it most reliant on Chipspeed?

Because I am going to upgrade after Christmas (hopefully) and I want to expedite this stuff. It takes a long time.

It was my belief that for video editing, speed is reliant on processing power. The faster the cpu...the faster you get it done.

A P4 is great for editing.

P4's aren't great for anything, and I won't buy Intel.
Ever.

Is the 64 really worth the money over the 32 bit core?
I want 3000+ or faster, but the there's about a $50 difference between the 64 3000+ and the regular 3000+.

I mean, $50 after you buy a motherboard for it. The MB's that support 64 are also more expensive.

theres still a slight difference in a 32bit environment, but to see the huge change, you'll have to use gentoo 64bit os, or a pure 64bit os (m$ are way behind).

However, if you want it to last, then yes, it is important.
