I was just wondering how you would name a flick properly in this situation. I downloaded a full dvd off of usenet and ripped it myself. I want to give credit to the uploader of the dvd also so i was wondering how you would name it then. I was thinking like this(The movie is Terror Tract)...

Terror.Tract.2000.DVD-Screamer_XviD-ThEdEaDLiVe

or

Terror.Tract.2000.FULLDVD-Screamer_XviD-ThEdEaDLiVe

Anybody know how to properly name something like this. Spud do you still have the link to that website with the guidlines on naming flicks?

To be honest mate it's personal preference.

As long as you include what's important

The TDX guidlines can be found in this thread

<a href="http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=4548" target=blank>TDX Guidelines</a>
I just go for what looks the best :beerchug:
As long as the info is there!

Those guidelines suck balls, just name it what the fuck ya want. Like the dude said, as long as the info is there then there should be no problems.

Don't agree, filenaming like TDX is anything but tak, it includes every bit of info in a neat way without any shit. If you name like that, its less likely to be renamed.... so i disagree with you tak. Infact, you'll probably see STRs be renamed a lot more on the movies that don't follow those guidelines.

Title.YEAR.Detail.Source.codec-Group.CD.avi

ie.

Misc.1999.INTERNAL.DVDrip.Xvid-ThEdEaDLiVe.avi
is the best filenaming convention I've yet to see. I wouldn't bother with AC3 or other tags, I wouldn't use brackets!!!!! especially not [] That's incitement for removal ;) Maybe CD is translatable to:
Misc.1999.INTERNAL.DVDrip.Xvid-ThEdEaDLiVe.CD1.avi
Misc.1999.INTERNAL.DVDrip.Xvid-ThEdEaDLiVe.CD2.avi

Since your not a release group, either remove internal if there's another release, since its balls, if its a gorey movie, replace it with cut status, and if the other rip is crap, Proper.

Its the rest of TDX thats gay, but that's spot on imo.

It doesn't matter, but if you do this, then you are reducing the chances of renaming a hell of a lot.

Ed2k related. Don't use _, [, or typeface specific characters or your file *will* be renamed. Almost garanteed.

Hey Spud, it was just my personal opinion. TBH I only ever grab films after I have read the comments left on the various forums, it would make no diference to me if I ran a search for something and it said it was a DVD rip, I would not believe it until I read it on a release forum.

If it posted on a forum I am only interested in the source. Ripper and group whatever means little to me. Codec mean shit to me either, I output everything to my TV. I can see the advantages to the naming scheme, but I have never understood why so many ppl get uptight if they are not followed to the letter.

Keep the tags just as they are. If its an abbreivation with no ripping tags, then just name it wat you want and put the ripper tags on if you want. He obviously didn't care, so I doubt he really wants any 'credit'

I don't get what you mean by full DVD? You mean a DVDr? Well ed2k has a filesize limitation so you cant share DVDrs... if you mean its just a rip. then either keep the filename the same, or just change it to:

Terror.Tract.2000.DVDscr.XviD-RIPPERNAME.avi

I dunno why you put your screenname on, but don't tag things that aren't yours ;) If the filename already has the movie, year and the fact its a dvdscreener, then don't bother renaming it :)

oh and I would point out that perhaps this is a retagged release group rip... if its:
http://www.izonews.com/release.php3?releaseid=28269

Then the filename should be:
Terror.Tract.2000.DVDrip.XviD-SFM.avi

and the uploader has retagged it ;)

This is why, when the movie filename contains all the info already, to just leave them as is.

Well i ripped the file. The user named Screamer uploaded the full dvd(as in it's untouched or not ripped). He used DVd Decrypter and then made an iso out of the vobs and upped that on the newsgroup. I downloaded it and ripped the dvd (or dvd-r if it makes more sense) into an XviD. Hence the question on how to name it properly. Seeing as it was not my dvd but i was the one who ripped it.

Here was his .nfo...

ah, I understnad now! I wouldn't bother crediting the releaser of DVDr, its not needed since you've done all the ripping and are entirely to blame

Terror.Tract.2000.DVDrip.XviD-ThEdEaDLiVe.avi

If you do an nfo file too, then mention the source, but otherwise, there's no need.

Ok. Thanks Spud. I'm getting a little better at ripping now(although there's still a lot i don't understand) so your probably not too far off with the blaming bit :)
