Prior to doing a clean install recently I had been having a problem where if I clicked on a folder containing loads of zip files (mame\roms) Windows Explorer would hang. This stopped after the re-install but I needed to install Winzip 8.0 as I had some chd's that were zipped into lots of small files. Installing Winzip caused the explorer problem again and uninstalling it hasn't fixed it. Anyone any ideas? I'm running Win XP pro btw.

Might it be your anti-virus app doing scans withing archives and not letting you in untill it's complete?

That's why I've not installed Winzip until this week  but it doesn't work with spanned zip archives :(

sure it does.

Just open the the main zip, not right clicking, then extract when the archive is open.

That's what I did, must check if I have the latest winrar. But winzip has done its damage now. I'll try switching anti-virus off though next time I'm offline and see if that makes any difference.

Any chance that it?s your AV thats hanging the system?... some AV?s tend to check browsed zip files... hence large / lots of Zip?s and BOOM your computer stalls for a while...
