i have a good DVD burner a source to pretty much any DVD i want, and alot of HD space.

Question is this.... can anyone point me to a good guide on how to burn a very good copy? Looking for the very best possible quailty there is. I already know i can use Decrypter, but would like to get even better then that.

What are you asking about here actually? You want to make 1:1 copies/avi/CCE or what?

Well thats just it, i am not entirely sure.

Here is what i have. I have several DVD's of foreign films. When starting the DVD i can choose what language or even choose to have subtitles. I can have it play in Japanese and have subtitles or even just have it in english and remove the subtitles.

Doing research i have found where i can copy the film itself and choose the audio track to use for it etc.

Now here is where i need the help....
would it be better to use something like DVDXCOPY and make an exact duplicate of it? or would it be better to be selective and just make a XviD of it? My purpose would be to share it here on the site but being new to the whole ripping scene i am not sure which avenue to go down. And besides that, finding a guide that actully works has been taxing. I have found several guides but there is always some part of the guide that the software does not work for it to complete.

have I made any sense ?

First you should use DVD decryper, then use AutoGK. Check http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/autogk.htm for a walkthrough.
:D Spud can also probably help you, because he knows everything about these things.

I'd be more inclined to use GK with Xvid as opposed to AutoGK, it's a little more complicated, but will give you moer control and better rips :

Sharing wise, unless you have a big upload then do xvids. I too use normal gknot (go to the doom9 forums for the latest version), its pretty straightforward if you don't deviate from the guides until you know what everything does :)

For personal backups, there's only one option DVDr wise. DVDRebuilder. Superior quality everytime. Its slightly slower than transcoders but worth it. Also available in the doom9 forums :)

Yeah really,Using just straight Gknot is the way it goes....sure you need to set up settings and all that but basically only once so it's not really a big headache...I have seen some not so spectacular stuff with auto gk..namely bad AR and such.
So it's Rebuilder now spud?Does that work well with DvD shrink?
