What's peoples opinions of Shareaza these days? It's always seemed to get bad press, yet people still use it - has it improved much?

Azureus has a plugin called 'stuffer', which is a client banner, is there anything similar in Emule/Edonkey?

Also I remember some of the ed2k servers auto-banning Shareza clients. Does this happen still?

I have no intention of ever using Shareaza, just wondering the state of play these days, as there are loads of users out there still. :o

Yes I here that often spud, but why exactly? Is it stilll classed as a leech client? I mentioned Azureus and I have the stuffer client-banning plugin installed and it bins a helluva lot of Shareaza users!!

Consequently it is extremely popular, yet disliked equally by the BT and ed2k communities.

The only time I've ever seen any sort of test was in a mammoth thread over at SC, if I remember correctly, that some people commented on the ul/dl stats from emule that showed Shareaza in a poor light for uploading. But this was a while ago but it has been improved since I gather.

And if Azureus can ban Shareaza and other 'uknown' clients, wouldn't a similar incorporation into emule be not only advantageous, but necessary - given that Shareaza is 'so bad'? Or even at the server level as I'm guessing Shareaza does not use kad or ed2k serverless connectivity.

I'll defend the non-use of Shareaza, but one needs ammo :matrix:

Shareaza-->kazaa-->a name well known by 'the usual'. That's probably why so many people use it.
Can't help you any further since i haven't tried it tho. And; why would you want to ban Shareazaa? Because it's a leech client or what?

I'm banning Shareaza clients because, well.....that's why I'm asking! Why? With BT the advice I'm seeing is not to use Shareaza, because of the way it reports back to the tracker, and that it auto-removes completed files apparently.

But there must be more reasons than this or we would all be using it. Wouldn't we???

You know, I got in to some horrid arguments on usenet over this at 'alt.internet.p2p', I even registered at the Shareaza forums to ask noob type questions, hoping for insight - but I still can't fathom it.

I'm tempted to try it out, just to see :-o

No, the reason why shareaza is so shitty is that, instead of having 3 well made clients, perfectly suited to their networks and each able to download and upload without problems, you have one absolutely crap program, that doesn't work well on any network.

Its just not well made, its just inferior to the alternatives, and its got far too many bugs. It isn't banned by my emule, but it doesn't seem to give it powershare access. emule does upload to it though.

The reason its banned is because its a shit client, that's poorly written so tends to connect poorly to network, hammer and crap up the joint... not on purpose, but because its a thumbled job.

Shareaza is for newbies that have no idea about anything. Its like people using zonealarm... wtf would you do it? anybody, please tell me!?! yet people still do!
