I got the PC from my girlfriends boss after he opened a new office. he said he powered it down and unplugged it, put it in his car and drove it to the other office. when he plugged it in and tried to power it up, it beeped and wouldnt boot up.

so, i told him i would look at because he probably had a loose connection and he said if i could fix it i could keep it. so, i took a look at it but i have no idea what the problem is. any suggestions?

Actually that bottom link SRD posted should help you. Usually the beep comes from a loose memory, but if you have checked it, then it has to be something else.

Actually, there was no memory and i somehow chose not to acknowledge that  which also means someone forgot they took the memory out and proceeded to give me a free machine.

i dont think i would have realized that i was ignoring the fact the ram was completely gone in the first place, if this thread had not lead me to believe that the memory was fried.

oh well everything is fine. thanks guys!

haaa... *shrug* back in the day, ram wasnt required for machines to boot. i guess it was kinda like watching the sixth sense without out figuring out the twist ending before it happened :P

it is a decent machine though, custom built, 2.65 ghz/80gig/CD+RW/DVDRom. no video/audio card though. as soon as i get some ram itll be sweet.
