So is Phil still in the band?Doesn't look like it from the new line up...unless he changed his name.
I wore out my Seasons of the Dead tape long ago....need another copy....I hate that redone stuff they did of the old tunes..really was a big waste IMO and basically ruined all their best songs.Killjoy is definately into the Gore though...He has my total respect in what he is doing. Thanks for the web page and the other vid...am waiting with baited breath for another gore metal vid. Wish I could join that band

Quote: | (Phil) fucked-up their original horror metal sound with his shitty guitarwork Evil or Very Mad made them sound like your average black/death metal band. |
I disagree, but thats cuz i heard Holocausto de la Morte first. That sounds like your average DM band? Really? Like Death or Cannibal Corpse? I think not. Phil wrote that entire Cd himself. And IMO Seasons of the Dead (and that Legacy demo CD too) is fucking awful, that guitarist sucked a lot more than Phil. The new guy (Gorelord?), is good, but kind of boring. Their songs now have cheesy lyrics, singing about ringu and what not.Its atmosphere that makes it awesome. Again, MO.
Anyone got Nightmare Scenarios?

I think that explains alot right there....When they first came out NOONE had that sound....and to the die hards that loved them...when they came out with the stuff phil did...well....it just never matched up.I guess you had to be there and live through the shit to understand...the same goes for the Death.I find more often than not that everyone raves about the newer Death and will trash the old stuff....To me I stopped buying Death after Spiritual Healing which was a slap in the face to me as far as lyrical content and just feeling of passion in the music. The Legacy demo is just that...a demo.. so it is not going to sound very good in the first place. Not many demo's from the 80's sound very good (ever here Bathory's demo?)
I could play anything that Phil has wrote with a blindfold and and a 5th of Gin...Seriously....as a guitar player....he really isn't that good and certainly a long way from where they had been and a millenium away from any dimebag riff.
Just my opinion though By the way....Nightmare is a bitch to download....I am not sure if they will ever complete...I got 2 links

That's just my point...their stuff with Phil lacked that atmosphere wich made them a "horror" metal band!
There's a difference between playing eerie disharmonic chords and doing the "fretboard shuffle" like Phil does...(IMO )
But agreed calling them an average DM band was a bit harsh...

Still disagree with vermin that they didn't have a horror movie atmosphere with phil. I think people like to bash phil cuz pantera made money. But yeah I did miss the whole 'growth' of death metal (being only 24 now), so Cannibal Corpse sounds like DM to me, but ANY Necrophagia release is pure horror all the way. And yes, old school DM sounds tame as hell to me. Death sound boring, and Carcass is just lame. But thats cuz I grew up hearing Dying Fetus and Dillinger Escape Plan (I know not Death, but insane nonetheless!) since I was 14. Plus I feel DM vocals have improved since the 80s a lot. I understand it was new then, so the growl and bark wasn't quite honed yet. I am DM vocalist/guitarist, and I can scream damn close to Phil, and probably play his riffs without a sweat. But this Gorelord guy sucks mor ethan Phil. He play boring ass Mortician rip-offs. If that guy from Sigh wasn't there to make it creepy, he'd have nothing. Just wait, my old band is back together ( Colostomy Grab Bag) with a new member so we'll crush Necrophagia, you watch!
PS: if anyones interested in hearing our crappy-but-decent demo we made in one drunken night, lemme know, if only for shits and giggles.

Good for you...we don't have to agree with everything!
But c'mon man I don't bash Phil because Pantera made money ...that's bullshit! (vulgar display of power is a metal classic!)
I must be getting old...wtf...Carcass (reek of putrefaction/symphonies of sickness!!!) lame?
GrindCallus, hope everything works out with Colostomy Grab Bag (sounds like a song from...no wait it IS a song from O.L.D. (Old Lady Drivers)

and your new famous member...

Old school deathhead here
Well Death and Carcass are two of my favorites but I guess they weren't thrashy enough for you (try the earlier grindcore Carcass then). I happen to like progressive/technical bands so these bands fill my criteria. I also like the "old classics" obviously.
Death is pretty freestyle so that opens up a lot of possibilities (Atheist was pretty much a jazz band for example). Guess a band can't please everyone (wouldn't be death otherwise ).
I would like to hear your stuff. I'm always eager to hear about a new death band.

Sorry to hit a nerve vermin. Ive been in too many needlessly lengthy arguments defending poor old Phil. And also sorry for Carcass-bashing (is that a pun?), Heartwork is a decent album, plus their riffs really hurt my wrist. Anyway, to each their own. Some people actually like rap for example.....
Well here are some links to my group, CGB. We will be recording our album someitme this year, when our new guitarist gets back from his tours. Now this stuff isn't really DM or grindcore, though our new stuff is definitely faster heavier and just more brutal all around, these sound like crap in comparison. Keep in mind that this 'album' was made up on the spot while the 3 of us were drunk. The guitars are direct to computer through a Boss metal zone, as was the vox, drums, bass. After we sobered up, we realised it was actually pretty good! The lyrics were 'free-styled' with the exception of one track, which I dug out from my old high school notebooks. Please check it out nonetheless, and let me know how horrible it is. And know this isn't a Christian Grindcore band like people seem to ask me.....
