I've made two rips of the movie (1/3 and 1/6 DVD) and I'll let you pick which one you want released. I've only checked them briefly so far but quality looks good on both.

1/6 DVD
Code:
Video Codec FourCC...: xvid
Video Codec Name.....: XviD 1.1
Video Frame Size.....: 576 x 416
Video Bitrate........: 958.43
Video Framerate......: 25.000
Video Frame Quality..: 0.16
Audio Codec..........: 0x0055(MP3, ISO) MPEG-1 Layer 3
Audio Bitrate........: 125 kb/s total (2 chnls) LAME3.90.°
Audio Framerate......: 48000Hz
Interleaving.........: 1 vid frame (40ms)
Packed Bitstream.....: No
B-Vob/Qpel/GMC.......: Yes/No/No

Frame quality seems a little low (it's FS after all) but it doesn't seem to have problems in scenes with motion. Credits encoded at lower bitrate. QM: H263.

1/3 DVD
Code:
Video Codec FourCC...: xvid
Video Codec Name.....: XviD 1.1
Video Frame Size.....: 704 x 512
Video Bitrate........: 2037
Video Framerate......: 25.000
Video Frame Quality..: 0.226
Audio Codec..........: 0x2000(AC3, Dolby Laboratories, Inc) AC3
Audio Bitrate........: 192 kb/s total (2 chnls)
Audio Framerate......: 48000Hz
Interleaving.........: 2 vid frames (80ms)
Packed Bitstream.....: No
B-Vob/Qpel/GMC.......: Yes/No/No

A little overkill since it has only ac3 2.0. Image quality is much sharper of course. QM: Mpeg.

why not 1cd with Jawors? are you using any noise filter?

Author:  ^Rogue^ [ Wed Jul 05, 2006 12:49 pm ]
Post subject:

When I rip stuff for myself I use the Jawors but since some standalones have problems with CQMs I use standard matrices on my releases. At least I did so with the last 3 or so.

Noise filters: Only undot IIRC.

Btw. These don't need to be the final versions. I don't mind ripping the movie again so any tips are appreciated. :)

I' through doing that. Besides, I think this one's a borderline case. FS and 93 minutes - IMO it benefits from the additional 45 mb.
I have one rip on my HDD (a HK movie with Anthony Wong) which I made a couple of weeks back. I suppose it's gonna be my final 700 mb release.

That's a custom quantizer matrix - pretty much the default one when not using the standard ones (H263 and Mpeg). :)

It's a custom xvid matrix for encoding movies.

Ah thanks for the info, I need to do a new rip for Van Damme's Legionnaire

The problem with custom quantizer matrices (CQM) is that some standalones don't support them so you might get a lot of bitching when/if you release your rip.

[spudmode]Of course if you have an xBox you won't have any problems.[/spudmode]

fuck standalone owners, use jawors

They knew the risks when they bought a pos player, no point using hvs when there's something better.

Seriously, ARF is about maximising quality, most standalones can handle most CQM anyway so you might as well. EQM and hvs work on i think all standalones, mediatek shitty ones anyway. I'd say at this point you should go for jawors though.

I usually CQM, but then i doubt anyone watches the crap i rip ;)

I do. ;)

I'll try and make a 1/6 DVD using Jawor1CD and post the screens for comparison. Maybe we can all learn something about ripping in this thread. :)

Any recommendations for additional noise filtering?

I read somewhere that Jawor's was thought to be standalone compatible anyway?

Damn, looks like I invented new tags.

Does it use parameters? You got a link to an FAQ? Might spare me some searching...

Just a quickie  What's the exact MB for ADF (2cd) that I should put in Gknot?

Author:  ^Rogue^ [ Wed Jul 05, 2006 1:36 pm ]
Post subject:

I use 1490 mb because I like to have some 10 mb of free space on a DVD with 3 1/3 DVD rips.

I'm just second guessing Mr Potato Head, but I know it's one of his favoured denoising filters.

Jeez, how did we get from AFR through ARF to ADF?

1493MB should do it, or GK has a drop down for 1/3rd DVD now doesn't it?
