Anyone want Tourist Trap?

This movie scared the crap out of my when I was a kid.
Full Moon pictures circa 1979 with David Schmoeller of Pupper Master 1 fame directing.

It will be my first ever rip so this will pretty much be a test to see if I can do it competently.

:beerchug: <-- Hopefully my rip
:argue: <-- Possible case...
:eatthis: <-- Worst Case Scenario (caps for respect to movie of same title)

There's this rip which is reported to have full sources:

If you can best it for quality i'm sure people will bite, otherwise its probably best to move down to the next title on your list :)

Crap I even did a search >_<

Mine will be

720 x 480 original aspect ratio
29.97fps
IVTC (dunno if that is important ^^)
MP3 128kbps (dropped sound down to fit in 700mb limit)
2 Pass Xvid
817 bitrate

oh dear, well yes there's several problems with this.

1) never rip with a resolution so high if you can't support it with enough bits, you've got a very low bitrate @ 817kb/s and a very high almost uncropped/zoomed resolution of 720x400. Generally your looking at ~600x resolution for a bitrate that small
2) you should never, ever rip at 30fps unless you have true NTSC content, that is shot with a poor ntsc home camera or a tv broadcast such as the news (and now not even then)
3) Yes, your essentially wasting 6 frames a second. So you've got 817kb/s split between 30frames instead of 24 frames
Check this out
817 / 30 = 29.20 kb per frame times * 24 = 700.87 kb/s comparitive bitrate on important non-duplicated frames
So 817 - 700.87 = 116 kb/s waste

Your essentially wasting ~120kb/s because you didn't IVTC. And its wasting, there's really no need to keep the duplicate frames.

You must always IVTC your rips that need it, and the resolution is best chosen to be reflective of available resources (ie. your available bitrate).

So by just making sure you either FORCE FILM or check the IVTC box in Gknot (I would recommend you use gknot as a ripper) you will gain a lot of quality, and by reducing your resolution your picture won't pixelate quite so much on low bitrate rips. :)

have a look here:

Its not a guide, its just a clarification of what needs to be done if your new to ripping :)
