Xtro Collection (1983 - 1995) | | Directed by Harry Bromley Davenport
Starring Philip Sayer and Bernice Stegers
More than a decade before "The X-Fles" made alien abductions a national craze, this bloody, schlocky, overly serious British film exploited the subject, while trying to cash in on the "Alien" craze, with mixed results.
A boy watches his father abducted by a fake-looking space ship. His father returns three years later—but in the form of a space monster. The creature effects are pretty cool. When the monster first shows up it's shaped like a man, but walks on all fours—frontside up. The monster rapes a woman who, in a graphic and particularly memorable scene, then gives birth to the full-grown father!
The alien/father befriends the boy and somehow enables his toys to come to life and start killing people. The story doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but it does create the opportunity for some fun horror movie setpieces, including some bloodsucking by the alien/dad.
The best thing about this film—aside from the English accents—is the gorgeous Maryam D'Abo (the main Bond girl in "The Living Daylights") who has a small part and two graphic nude scenes. She's a hot babe. The film borrows quite a bit from past alien invaders film, particularly the classic "I Married a Monster From Outer Space" and "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," but it doesn't come remotely close to conveying the paranoia of them. Overall, it's a weak effort.
The tagline attempted to exploit the popularity of "E.T.": "Some extra-terrestrials aren't friendly." A sequel of sorts followed: "Xtro II: The Second Encounter and finally Xtro III: Watch the skies" |

| Xtro (1983) | | Review: Tony's father Sam, abducted by aliens three years earlier, returns to earth and seeks out his wife and son, but Rachel has since been living with Joe and the reunion is awkward. Joe doesn't trust Sam, and Rachel can't quite decide what her feelings are for her two men. Sam is not the same as when he left, and he begins affecting Tony in frightening ways.

| Xtro II: The Second Encounter (1990) | | Review: Scientists at a secret underground complex have found a way to travel to another dimension. Three dimension-travellers are the first to go through the gate - but are soon attacked by something that interrupts the communication with Earth. This horrible something uses the gate to travel back to the underground complex. Most of the staff are evacuated, except four heavily-armed militaries and Dr. Casserly and Dr. Summerfield who just can't stand each other...
