I need to build a new PC methinks, one for Spain as my water cooled rig is heavier than all of hell, for gaming, programming and very importantly as a media center. Purpose: - Play games, good games!
- Play films, errr... shit horror films!
- Programming and the like
I need: - Powerful enough to play GTA IV, Fable 2 and Empire Total War as well as anything that comes out next year without any issues.
- It to be extremely quiet, no fan noise so its not an annoyance if i'm watching a 1080p or sleeping
- To be able to source the parts in Spain
- Preferably none of the bright blue, horrible tacky crap you get with 'cool' PCs and components; silent and invisible is preferable... no light or noise polution
Software compliance I require: - I will be running Vista Ultimate x64
- 100% linux driver compatability as i plan to have CentOS or Ubuntu on there too
Now I don't necessarily have to/want to build it myself but I am more than capable; so if there's an off the shelf thing then by all means show me some linkage!

I'm interested in making my new box more quite too. It must be one of those fans.

fast = heat = loud
I was looking at the intel 7is, probably 6-12 GB of ram and a solid graphics card?

I'm using this, as it is my recently bought self built PC: Slayer wrote: | Here goes:
- Intel Core2Quad Q9300 4x2.50 GHz 6M Box 1333 MHz FSB - Asus P5Q PRO Intel P45 DDR2 Crossfire - 2048 MB A-Data ~DDR2/800 Dimm - Samsung 750 GB SATA II U300 7200 rpm 32M - MSI Radeon HD4850 512MB DDR3 HDMI PCI-E => 625 MHz/1986 MHz/HDMI/DVI - Forton Source 700W ATX 2.2 SLI PSU |
I find it very quiet, but my former PC made hella noise, so maybe Im not a good example

Core i7 seems to be tricky: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article884-page1.htmlQuote: | For silent computing enthusiasts, the Core i7 isn't really a step forward, what with the promise of higher performance at the price of higher thermals, which may cost a decibel or two. |

That's indeed the downfall of most of the HTPC cases i've seen. To much lights/plastic etc. I like the OrigenAE but those are mostly to expensive for my taste/wallet
