Being in the trade circles, lemme tell you all, the money Sega have made recently is ALL being re-invested in software development. They know they are not hardware anymore and are concentrating on the soft side, they have recently began approaching many soft companies to this end trying to secure distribution and the like.

The only rumours going around ATM is that a new console may appear, but the only aspect that will involve Sega will be the name, and the hope that sega soft will be exclusive to it. Sega will have nothing to do with the design or production.

I loved Sega in the day, I loved Atari too, but there time has gone and will never return. I also believe Sony will soon be seriously hassled by Xbox, Microsoft are doing everything right so far, and look only to be going from strength to strength. The gap will close with the next gen of hardware, and by the gen after it will be real close.

I am not a fan of super sized companies, but then again a new, small, independent company has little hope of finding the finances to even develop a decent console, let alone compete.

As I said the DC is a superb bit of hardware and could well be viable today IF sega had committed to it, but they didn't and it is dead

@PCA, trouble is Atari never commited enuff, Nintendo lost a lot of market share for bailing out on the N64 too quick, and Sega did the same with mega cd and 32x et al. They all left alot of ppl feeling pretty pissed at the time.

Since then, console gaming has gone way more mainstream and the current gen of consumers, ie those little shits that are too young to remember, only know Sony and M$. To them Sega are not that much, many ppl I know also only trust the handheld side of N too.

f*ck that shit, its the software side that makes nintendo what they are. That's the only thing they've ever done consistantly well.

I assume you were talking strictly hardware only? :)

Nintendo 1st party software is superb and they sell their hardware off it.

My argument is what IP's do Sega have that they could *realistically* sell hardware off the back of?

Sonic? naah, mario please ;)
Out run? PGR2 or GT4 are FAR better
Crazy Taxi? LOL - yeah right

@Spud, yeah I was on about Hardware. No-one can really doubt the quality of their soft.
